Question House Items

On osi when you came up to a house it looked like it was empty. (No item inside) but as you walked inside the items seemed to load. Can this be applied to RunUO servers? i have thought about it many times but have not idea where to start. Then again it could be something to do with client or core files anyway just a thought.

Sure would help on lag i guess LoL

It doesn't do that yet. I posted in script support a while abck asking for help to do this, but I guess no-one knew how. Big houses are blackholing players on dialup on my shard.

RunUO handles houses better then OSI, you don't want it they deal with it, plus because were working with our own code might be possible.

We use zlib, notice OSI doesn't so they deal with it differently.

Personally I like it better this way, Being able to see that the house isn't empty when you come up to it. Besides there is supposed to be a "roof" anyway so you can't see inside, so I'm not exactly sure as to why you would want it like OSI

It is a compression format.

One word:
Lag.

Big houses with lots of items in cause lag for people on lower connections. As I said, I've had a lot of people blackholed by houses, which is the very reason OSI implemented this in the first place.
Heck, make it an optional bool if it's added, like so many other things, but please add it - that or explain how we can do it ourselves.

I am not the smartest man when it comes to coding but on OSI when you walked into a large house say a tower you would have a moment of lag as if the house was loading and it always seemed to me the items loaded per client maybe cause if you left the area for awhile the house went back to empty again. Now as far as why like Voran said it blackholes lesser connections. and if you have players like i do who pack there houses full of stuff all those item count agaisnt the server and stop me if i am wrong that adds extra lag, save times, etc. Again i am not the man to be talking to about it just its a Ideas forum and thought i would post it. Phantom says the RunUO's method is better, and i am no one to question that. He knows a whole... whole lot more than me on this. Just thought it was a good idea.

I see your point... It does promote quite a bit of lag.. esp to those using the 56k connection So that might be a good idea.
