Default Save Editor (formerly "New Save Format")

A different save formatting - something that can be edited...

I am against a different way of saving things out.

I am in favor of the ability to use a different GenericWriter and GenericReader but this would be very low in the todo list.

But this is only my opinion.

With GenericReader and GenericWriter, this may already be possible.

I say keep the system (fast save times) but write a decoder that will let ya edit it and change settings so if you get a corrupt npc or item you can look at it and delete it and not mess your uo up.

I disagree with different worldsave files, but I support a reader of the files!

ROFL

You guys relize that if they made it anything but what they have know load times sand save times would turn into a few minutes?

Its very possible to read and write and combine world saves you just have to figure out how. I have done it sort of and no, I won't release it because would confuse alot of people.

Well, I for one would like to see such a program available.. and i'm pretty certain my players would as well.. I'm tired of having to wipe every time something goes wrong and I have to revert to an old save..

Thats why you make backups of your saves. Only takes about 10 lines of code to have it save a backup....

You could do it every 4th save if you wanted.

Trust me its easy.

I think a program that is able to read and modify the save files would be good feature in the future releases because there are lots of times that a shard admin has to look into the saves and find out the properties of an account like how many characters are in it, and there are times that when an admin has to dig into the old saves and find out the items or the skills of a character in an account because someway somehow that account got corrupted and the player is constantly asking for it back. In my knowledge the only way to tell whether that player is telling lies or the truth is to confirm it from the old and safe saves.

ps: I also tried to open the saves but failed, must be because of my lack of c#and runuo knowledge.

A DAT drive and NTBackup. I backup the entire RunUO directory every 6 hours. I can almost fit 6 weeks of that on one tape. Saved me once already.

I think we're striving for a save modification program now..
and I personally don't want to go buy a tape drive to backup shard saves when I have a huge file server sitting in my computer room for just such a purpose

I believe that every admin has some way to backup the data he/she thinks is vital. Backing up the saves or the whole server is not our point.

As I said before in this thread, every admin, someday, needs to look into the saves to find something. Like a player loses his character somehow and he proves that it is his so you have to look into the saves and take out his/her skills and items.

Phantom and some other people told that looking into the saves is possible, even right now, but we have to find it out ourselves. I tried myself without any luck and I believe this is due to my lack of knowledge in both runuo and c#.

I think that an official runuo save reading/modifying program is vital for a server to run. I have never administered a sphere server before but from what I know, it should be something like theirs.

What do RunUO devs think about this issue?

Hmm, I believe Zippy has/had an out-of-game worldfield viewer/editor, I'll check into it.

Default good :)

Can we read the skills/items that belong to a player with that editor? and Do you have any plans to develop one, just for RunUO that can read every save (account, guild, items, world, and such)?

something like that would be nice for version upgrades (when a playermoble has to be deleted because of an incompatability)

have them remake the char, but copy over the had items, and get the skills they had, makes you a less hated person when you have to do a playerwipe because you like the fetures fo the upgrade (which for this server, happens to be an every upgrade thing)

Well I'm not experienced in this server to say the very least as of yet lol, not sure I'll get that experienced but I do know one thing. Being able to modify a worldfile is almost a must for some things. I don't know what things will crash this server yet but one thing I know that crashed Sphere servers was colors. Transparent ones to be exact would love to crash the server and guess what? There was almost no other way to get it out of there but to take the server down, find it, and delete it from the world if at all possible unless you could get lucky enough to have to nuke an entire area of your world wherever that color happened to be.

Granted this particular scenario may never happen but there may be other things that crash this server that are basically the same thing? How will we be able to recover from something added or changed in the world that clashes with it if we are unable to actually "get" to it to see where it is, change it or remove it or whatever is necessary?

Will there be some way to do this? If so then great we won't need this option in my opinion but if not I think we're going to need at least some way to get to this information.

Ok that's my 10 cents lol, *goes back to her books to find out more on this server she's intending to change to* lol

I started an editor a while back, it works and it can edit *most* of the props on items and mobiles... however it's not done, there's no searches or anything....

So it's basically waiting for me or krrios to have time to work on it.
