Default adding custom map

Hey, sorry to post this again, just i found sooo many strings with "map" and adding" and "custom" it was imossible to find a pre-documented description lol.

Ive created the map and converted it to the MAP0.mul file, now i want to add it, which means replacing an exsisting map, its a Malas size map so im wanting to shove it over that one...

1) is map0.mul the right name or should i change it?
2) how exactly do i get it into runuo now, i did this before after freezing files into a map but i cant remember for the life of me, thanks for any help or pointers.

youll need to send the .mul file to your players so they can see the land. nah , Malas isnt Map0 Felucca is,,, i dont remember which one it is though!

ah but the map is all within map0.mul, so i just rename it don ti? im wandering how i get my server to include it as it is, (which scripts to change it form malas to my map) an di know i have to RAR. it and it will shrink dramatically and be sent to my players who join via gateway, ill worry about that after, just for now i need to know how to get my server to run it. ppllllllllllease!

ahh i found it!! Malas is map3.mul, as are the statics3.mul and staidx3.mul. yea you can just rename it.
yea you add to to UOGateway as a .rar.
Oh to get ya server to run it just throw it in you Ultima directory, make sure to maek a back up of your old file and that UO and your shard isnt running, then youll be able to log in and see your new map!

Hello,

There are so many things in the basic RunUO setup that you will have to change in order to run a custom map that you will be busy for a long long while after you get the map properly made. Regions, gates, teleporters, decorations, doors, npc location, etc ... All references will have to be modified most likely.

As for Map0, it has to be the right size, ie, Trammel/Felucca. It cannot be any other map size, as it is regulated by the client as well as the server. The client side is the important one, since, unless you make your own client, you cannot change it.

I mean this with the utmost respect and sincerety, you are in over your head. If you cannot script basic things like items and monsters, you really have little reason to expect to be able to convert the entire world properly. Your post suggests to me that you are thinking big, looking for answers, but know little to nothing about how the system works, in part or together.

In that light I would suggest looking to scripting examples, any tutorials you can gleen, and lots of Time spent learning before you even attempt this course of action. Ryandor has a great map tutorial site, as well a good tools. You found RunUO, so you know about the forums here. And there are plenty of other sites out there. Good Luck, and Be Well.

ah great, ive just got to sort out the statics3.mul and staidx3.mul files because when i used dragon there wa san error with them, and it didnt change them, im guessing this will tip it on its head as theres info i need in there. ill just try sort that then ill give it a whirl, thanks for yer help matey :P

well, actually ive got it in and working, its only the moongates and regiojs to edit, which i have doen before, i even set up my own house region rules before, just to stop them casting certain spells (with the help of my all tiem glitch/explit finding firend lol)

although from my english when typing to fast you wouldnt believe i could edit a script and have it compile in the end. Ive converted a map, made it a town, set my own regions and rules and added it to the moongate before, the only thing id never done was actually creating my own map, and i dont use malas, so im just replacing it with a 320x256 (malas) size custom map. Im sure ill be back her esoon enough with problems, i dont doubt that, but im not comletely ignorant. thanks for the tips though , i like the challenge, wouldnt be fun if it was automatic

then all i have to do is build my towns and freeze them into the map again, there isnt a copy/paste tools for non-static items is there, similar to the wipe command, or i guess i could do [set z? x? y? and move it brick by brick lol
