Default Custom maps. I am very lost

I have tried using the search feature, but can not find the information I need.

I want to use a custom map.
I have gotten Dragon. I have built the map.
I have created the files: map0.mul, statics0.mul and staidx0.mul.
I know 2 of them go to the client (will look that up after I post. that not the problem).

The problem is how do I get the map on my shard? Where does it go in the Run UO folder?

Once it is in the correct location of the folder, and the client has the other 2 files installed, I should be able to log on and begin testing the map. Is that right?

Actually all 3 of those files need to replace your orginal ones in the client. So backup the clients map0.mul statics0.mul and staidx0.mul then copy the custom ones you made in there. Also if your server isn't using the muls from the client you'll have to place them to whichever directory you have your server pointing to for the muls.

To be sure I understand.
All I need to do is copy those 3 files to the client.
Then the users will see that map and work on that map, not the default one?

Well yes and no. To just view the map and walk around and decorate it then all you need to do is have everyone connecting download those 3 files and put them in their UO dir overwriting the originals. But then in order to be able to mine and stuff you'll have to set up the regions on your server.

This is interesting. I got the files to the client.
I am using UO Gateway, so I put them in a rar patch and patched the client.

Now the client sees the new map, but it also sees the NPC's and some of the doors and signs from the OSI style map.

So, where my map has land, and the OSI style has water. I cannot walk. Where mine has water and the OSI style has land. I am more or less just stuck standing on the water.

still trying to learn. Any more advice? Oh, and I'll get to the regions later. First I wanted to at least be able to walk/sail around the map.

Thats because you didn't wipe the static files first.

There has to be a better way.
All of the [wipe commands want me to draw out a bounding box.
I need to clear all the OSI statics and NPC's out. There has got to be a better way.

Just go to your RunUO saves folder and del everthing in the items. mobile and regions folders. That will get rid of the doors and npc's.

I'm having a similair problem, my problem is that I only want the Malas map, I'm pretty sure I can remove the other maps but i wouldnt know how to make people spawn in malas instead... could someone point me to the mapfiles, and the spawnlocations?

Thanks in advance

I saw the answer to that somewhere on these boards. You have to set it up server side in the scripts that there is only a malas map used. Then reset the start point coordinates.
I'll try to find it again
