Since Beta 29, we've been experiencing a problem with changing maps. I can't seem to narrow it down any further and I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue:
Periodically, the whole server locks up. It locks up all clients for about 30 seconds. It only happens sometimes when a Staff member uses the [set map xxxxx command. When I say sometimes, I mean that it will do it for a while, then maybe I reconnect, and it won't do it anymore. All of our staff members are experiencing this problem, as we are frequently moving back and forth while we decorate Felucca. Another thing that causes the problem is when we use [admin to travel to a player on a different map than the one we are currently on. Again, it only happens sometimes in that situation. Anty thoughts? Ideas? Fixes? |

Datapath.cs is default. Server is loaded with AoS 2d. Probably unpatched. Server is dedicated Windows XP Pro box. Nobody plays on the server (or touches it without my knowledge). Single network card attached to a cable modem. AoS install is in default location. I noticed it early into Beta 29. (Maybe a problem generated by my conversion?) I have quite a few custom scripts, but I'm pretty meticulous about how I upgrade them to each new version. I always add the new version of the script then go back and re-insert my changes.
I still cannot seem to narrow down the error. Like I said, it does it sometimes. Somtimes it does not. It'll work once, then the problem will occur the next 4 or five times you try. Then suddenly it's fixed again. I had a theory that it might have something to do with being hidden. I noticed one evening that it would do it while I was hidden, but not when I was visable. Unfortunately, an hour later, I could not reproduce this theory. (And people are generating the error while visable as well). Still no luck..I guess I'll have to start pulling scripts ![]() |

If datapath.cs is the default then you really should make a copy of the files listed in it, put them in a new directory, and point the server to them.
On some shards it will affect lag by up to 80% depending on the server configuration and what else is running. Also try setting the process priority on your client to below normal in task manager, you will notice a huge performance difference for your players.

I'll try that out.
Quick question, tho... Why would setting my process priority on my client lower affect others gameplay? As I mentioned, The server is not being played on. I don't believe Ultima Online has ever been started on the machine... Just installed. You were assuming that the machine was being used for play as well? |

Yes I was assuming it was used for play as well, just that they didn't play there without your knowledge
![]() The UO client, both 2D and 3D will try to take all the processor time they can, so that would cut into the processor time available for RunUO. However the client doesn't need all of the extra processor time to run, it just tries to take it. Take a look at some of the other programs that are running in the background as well, maybe a screen saver is attempting to start when this happens.
