No server back up - RunUO

Ok I have tried working this out on my own... and NO SUCCESS!

Our power went off and back on and when runuo was brought back up.... it wanted to delete items from the world.... I tried deleting the container it wanted... and it wanted me to delete all of its kind....

I thought... maybe if I do a few more.. but it was doing mushtashes... short hair... bank boxes... EEEEKS!

So I was going to restore it... but being new.. I only knew to go to the c:\RunUO-Beta-26\Backups folder and put this into my saves folder ... now i have it back up... but this is weeks behind my newest builds and spawns....

is there another place i can find a more recent back up?
is there a way I can manually make periodic backups?
is all lost?

The backups should be every time you save it moves the teir up until the last teir which is deleted.

There is no way to get a backup that isn't there....

So I am gathering... that if I used the files in the backup folder... that was it............... ok...

so how can i make sure and back up so that I KNOW there are recent backups from now on?

and only other way to do so is to back it up by hand yourself... you can copy your saves folder to a save place, rename them or whatever, zip em up and name em however you like. That is an option you may want to consider if 3 tiers of backups isn't enough?

Make sure your saves are saving more than every few weeks also? I mean your saves should have been there from the last 3 saves, not sure why you would have had to back up weeks behind unless you aren't updated to beta29 in which case :shock:

Phantom... we had a power surge... it messed up my saves is all I can figure out. Therefore.... I just didnt have anthing esle..... that is what my FIRST post said... I was asking if there was somewhere else that something may have been saved for me to check.

Wolverana .... As for the three tier save.... I only know of two..... the saves folder and the backup folder... my saves folder was damaged in the power blurb..... Therefore all those were not usuable.

As for not having 29 you are very correct.... I didnt. but... I WILL start my new on on version 29

))))

If you were in beta 28 or below your backup was from the last server crash you had with power on.

So if the server had not crashed in a few weeks you had no backup made recently.

Thanks Mortis.... that makes sence now... I have been out of town a lot with my dad... he is not doing well.... so I had not upgraded... in fact... I dontknow how to upgrade... I have been trying to experiment today. I went ahead and downloaded the new runuo30 today.... since I am basically starting over anyway I am toying with the older versions... but since your post.. I will seace working with the 26 i had...

and just do the new 30. I was looking at the backups in 29 and see the 3 teir that wolverana was talking about...

how would I have upgraded an exsisting server from say 28 to 29... I have just been downloadig and extracting it to a run uo folder... then clicking the new runuoexe .... this opened a whole new server today.. I ahve been manually moving the stuff I had written over... to 29.... was their an easier way?

My server is just for family ... I am doing this as a hobby for my kids and relatives and close friends... but it has been fun so far....

Move over your saves folder, Any custom scripts or modified scripts.

Fire it up. No errors

If you get errors read what they are in the console.

It will tell you what script and line/column the error is in.

If you have any trouble with errors. Post the errors.

We will try to help you get past them.

Ok.. here is what I have been getting....

Scripts: Compiling C# scripts... done (0 errors, 0 warnings)
Scripts: Compiling VB.net scripts... no files found.
Scripts: Verifying... done (1133 items, 315 mobiles)
World: Loading... An error was encountered while loading a saved object
- Type: Server. Mobiles. Banker
- Serial : 0x0000087F
Delete the object? (y/n)

when i click no it gives an error and doesnt load.... I have to close it cuz world can not load.

I would not keep up with this but it has happened a few times... I know now to just go into the backups and reload to saved... but I would like to know more about this so I can know what Im doing / not doing to cause it.

You have to type Y. This was in the changelog for Beta 29. The banker changed to a Vendor type mobile, from what it used to be.

Type Y, then type Y again.
