I just downloaded the new RunUO beta 32 and was wondering how everyone saves all of thier custom scripts, i have put alot of time into editing and writing everything and have even keep a list of every .cs file i have edited.
My question is what is the best way to do a backup of the files/server that you have edited, and not loose the work you have put into your server (ie. customized scripts). But still get the benefit of everything added by the new Server release. I know this has probably been covered somewhere but when you do a search for this i got: Search found 4591 matches. :? |

Well, in my opinion, the smart thing is to create a folder in your scripts directory called "Custom" and put all of your little gadgets in there. That way, when it comes time to upgrade, you wont have to sift through all of those scripts to to find the ones you have altered.
That goes back to the fact that, it doesn't matter where you put your scripts, as long as it resides in the 'Scripts' folder... Good luck fellas, I hope this kinda helped... |

And remember: If you EDITED or REPLACED distro scripts, put THOSE into the Custom Directory also, otherwise you'll lose your changes when you upgrade.

I have two additional folders in my scripts directory:
"Modded" and "Custom" Whenever I change -any- file I add a comment at the top saying what I changed and where it was origionally located. Then I move it to the modded folder. As you can guess I stick all the custom scripts in the custom folder. I also find it easyer to make sub directorys for different types of custom scripts. For example I stick all my custom Elven NPC's into a folder titled (never guess what).... "Elven NPC" Another important thing I do is copy both folders to a rar ever week or so, and name the rar as the date. Easy backups! - DK |
