Installing Beta 33 as a Service on Windows XP, logged in as the local Administrator.
The installation gets almost 100% complete and pops up this error 'Access to the path "e:\program files\runuo beta 33\ruoservice.InstallState" is denied. When I click OK from that error, it removes everything that was installed so far. I looked in the Services Controller and RunUO is installed as a service there and the runuo beta 33 folder only contains TBD14.tmp. I have restarted the system several times and tried drive C: instead of drive E: and get the same result. |

Likewise here on a 2K adv server install .... what's worse is that if I try to run the installer a second time, it tells me the service already exists and removes RunUO ( this is with the service completely removed from the registry, etc ...)

Welcome to the Darwin Awards .............
Installs just fine now ... The problem is permissions that are set on the system that RunUO is being installed on. Fix the permissions and everything installs correctly. If the initial install attempt failed and you get a message about the service already being installed on your next attempt to install, make sure that all registry entries for RunUO have been removed (you will possibly need to use regedt32 on win2k systems in order to modify permissions in the reg to allow the deletion of keys). Hope this is helpful |

Just an update, my problem existed because I used Fire Daemon in the past to install RUO as a service. That worked great, I just forgot I had it installed that way. It won't show up in your list of services as RunUO, which can throw you off.
Solution is to use Fire Daemon to uninstall the service. |
