Older Client Support

Hi everyone; I'm currently hosting a pre-uor shard on RunUO Beta (edit 32. Is it possible to use older clients with RunUO, like lets say 1.25.35, or 2.00, or maybie even 2.07? Thanks

Why would you want to use a older client that has less features?

You can use any client you want. heres a list of them..
The players using them will need to set thier login.cfg file to the shards IP is all, so no UO Gateway login for them if these are used..

You will have a NUMBER of problems (Such as unreadable spell books, missing/messed up graphics, etc)

These cannot be helped.

You should *ALWAYS* use the most recent client.

you can run any client you want, but as my shard being pre uo:r too and moving along a far ways, I have always wanted to use a better client for pre uo:r (3.0.0a)

but problems with it lied in gumps and localization only.

Eg. All localizations if they dont exist will not show (either find a way to manully update a 3.0.0a client)
And the skills gump does not work. It shows no skills and does not trigger right.

Otherwise you will get no problems with an older client, I just noticed alot of the nice clean features dont work, and must be done by hand.

Whatever dude.. I have tested older clients as well, 2.0.0 even, and there were no problems with running it. Sure some item graphics dont exist, and a few minor things, nothing that could not be sorted out with some simple editing.

That's a contradictory statement. "No Problems Running It" would mean everything worked "out of the box".

Phantom's statement *IS* correct: RunUO does NOT support older clients, BECAUSE using them causes problems such as missing graphics and "a few minor things".

If you read my post, you would see i said I had tested older clients, What part of that said that I love older clients and use them?

there was nothing I said that was completly incorect, older clients do work fine. Phantom stated that older clients "Will be Unplayable" wich is in fact, Incorrect.

Try to use a spellbook

The spell will not be displayed in the book. Turn on AOS you will cause alot of problems.

I sure hope you won't make people use older clients, thats whats wrong with this community people stuck in the past making other people use older clients.

anything before 3.0.8z will cause alot of problems, packet errors, countless other things.

Plus ANY problems you have we can't help you with as long as you don't patch your client we can't help you with client issues. Mainly because they are stuff we can't fix ourselfs because its the client.

What the hell? man you guys, I never said I use them, or my shard uses them, or I would prefer to use them. A guy asks if they will work, and Yes, they will work. Not problem free, but you could and can use older clients if you are willing to revert back to them.

Dian I understand your point as I have tested all old clients from 2.0+ but that was back on Beta 4 and even then if you did not have the updated client running older clients it was like trying to walk on water you would eventually drown. Back to the inital question yes you can use earlier clients will it work good NO it will work very badly do you recommend it absolutly not it is like trying to run Office XP on Windows 95 it will run but you will have more problems then solutions and technically older clients are not supported thus you would be on your own. To be honest "Unplayable" is a subjective not an objective saying what is unplayable to one person might be playable by another.
