My Server Has Encountered a Fatal Error

- ok first i start up run uo 1.0...

- alright at this point a small window pops up and says,

application has generated an exception that could not be handled.

click ok to terminate the application
click cancel to debug the application

- so i click ok....

- now my runuo window looks like this.
- so i try and find out what the problem is, first thing i do is get a new unused saves folder, i pop it in my runuo folder and take the other one out.
- runuo works fine
- i did not do anything to mess the saves up, i never shut off the pc in the middle of a save or anything like that, it just did this one day when i started up runuo.
- i have no idea what this could be, if anyone is familiar with these errors please help me, the errors are in the saves (well im pretty sure they are) and i dont know how to fix this, or how it happened.
- if you know how i could fix it without replacing my old saves (in which i spent ages working on, so i dont wanna lose em) or how this possibly happened, will you please just post here and try to help a fellow uo player out.

it just looks like the data files just got corrupted somehow. Probably no way to repair them unless you knew exactly what was wrong, which would not be likely.
you could always try a different runuo install with the old saves and see if it crashes also.

Why would I say anything different. Sidsid is correct your saves are corrupt.

I hope you have a backup.

and how do they get corrupted like that? cause if i rebuild my shard i need to know what to do, and what not to do.

I had the exact same problem last night.

Go to your SAVE Folder and delete everything in there. Go to BACKUP Folder, get The Most Recent Backup, Copy all Folders from in there to your SAVE Folder. Run RunUO. If you still have problem, try the next previous Backup.

Thankfully I have mine only lost like 15mins of work. But it started up again without a problem.

That would be really hard to say. There are literally limitless possibilties as to why that could have happened. It probably wasnt even anything to do with RunUO itself, more than a bad write to the file by the OS or something like that.

Needless to say I didn't have a working backup and had to start from scratch. It seemed that each time I tried to start server with a backup I received a message saying:

An error was encountered while loading a saved object. I have to delete the all objects casuing the load error and re-run the server.

Question???

Is there something I missed, or is there a way to do a simple cleanup? It seems there should be. I would like to be able to get my server backup in a timely manner.

Just wanted to throw that out there. It seems there ought to be some sort of a cleanup utility.
