Helpfile for upgrade 36 to 1.0 runuo ???

I have been searching for a kind of tutorial or help file for if you wanna upgrade from 36 to 1.0 Runuo
I am not sure what to do and what will happen if i do.
What will happen to scripts that I put in?
Will i loose all my deco? and so on.
Will the world be empty again?
Some questions i have about this upgrade.
Maybe I didnt search good enough, not sure
but would be great if theer would be such a help file.
If there is would anybody point me to it plz
cause i tried and didnt find it.
Maybe its because i dont know all the english words well

I have not seen a helpfile but I can type out some suggestions.

Make your old runuo folder something like oldrunuo
Download and install 1.0
Start up 1.0 to make sure its working by itself and close when you get to the make an account part.

First make a backup of your original scripts and saves should anything go wrong youll want this.
Move the saves from 36 to 1.0.
Move all custom scripts from 36 to 1.0.
If you had edited any base files you will need to merge your edited base files with the new 1.0 base files. You can do this with windiff, or araxis merge.
Once you have done this start up your 1.0 server and see if you have any errors. If you do go to the script that is causing the error and try to work it out.

Many many people have made the upgrade and it is fairly easy if you have the patience to work out the errors. We can not just give you a working set of upgrades because each person had to upgrade different things depending on what you had in your shard.

1) Don't post in color
2) Merge ALL YOUR SCRIPTS
3) Copy your save folder.

Your done.

Stormwolf, where can you get those progs you had mentioned?? how do they work? just take the two, compare, and throw together?? i too am looking to upgrade soon so.....thanks if you can give me this bit of info

im sorry, the guy talking about how you shouldn't post in color is prolly in the wrong, but i can't stand people just quoting half assed....if your going to quote hm then fucking quote him.....don't make him seem even more of an ass by removing the 2 and 3.....which he was refering to the your done statement in the first place

and if you were going to fuck with it anyways to make him seem like an ass, should have gotten rid of the 1 and his three steps statement....just makes you look dumb

Erh I think this thread is going a bit wonky.

Either way, My input is just that on the shard I play on (not sure If I'm allowed to mention the name on here) I know that my Admin is going through and checking each file to make sure there are no script problems 1 by 1 or group by group. And I mean everything. He's not just sticking it in to runUO 1.0 and checking it, he's checking the way it's coded, each individual file.

I can understand why though because last time when he swapped to runUO from sphere a lot of horrible things happened and he had to shard wipe. A lot of people were majorly angered, except me becuase I didn't mind working for the skills, pluss I got 1 Million gold in compensation

as storm has suggested use a merge program winmerge is also a good one to use...Sorry i dont have a link but downloads.net has it ..... You will still have some errors and some bugs to work out when you do any kind of upgrade but it is worth it as 1.0 has a better base coding then 36....

and there is no rule against color that i know off... But it may be hard for some to read in color Personnaly i dont mind.

Araxis merge works fine in xp here is a link to a 30 day free trial. If you want to buy it you can get 20 people on the same access code so you might be able to get a group togehter and share the cost.

Do you think a newbie like me could do such an upgrade,
fix the errors and bugs that might come up?

Sure I think anyone can upgrade, you just have to take the errors and work them out 1 at a time. If you need help the forums are here for you to search or post about your error.

Merging takes 2 files and makes them into 1. I suggest merging rather than replacing the new files with your old ones because there may be some changes you want in the new 1.0 files. If you merge your old files into the new files you can keep your old changes and still have the new fixes from the runuo team.

You only need to merge any base files that you have changed. For example most people have edited their playermobile.cs file for other custom scripts. This file was updated in 1.0 so if you have a non-base 36 playermobile file you will need to merge any changes you made into the new 1.0 playermobile file.

You would use the merging tools linked above, I think araxis i the better tool ,but you can try both for free. You would load up your beta 36 file on the left box and your 1.0 file on the right box and it will tell you which parts of the script are different. You can copy and paste or use a transfer button to transfer your custom code in file one into file two. You only need to save file 2 since that will be the merged file.

You don't need to merge the whole scripts as that would undo any changes done in the new script. You only need to merge custom code in the base runuo scripts.

for one i wasn't directing it at you gelfling.......i could care less about colors being used as i can read them fine.....in fact, it is a nice surprise to see someone using it.....

second, i was refering to the post that had just part of the quote and attacking the person....can't find it since it seems to be edited out but whatever...the miricals of message boards

and the comment about the world....if people didn't care so much as to just get pissed off such as typing in color, people would get along much better......if he didn't give a damn about you typeing normal or typing in pink and blue pokadots, then this extra conversation wouldn't have started and me and you would never have had a misunderstanding
