Problems with loging on

Hey this might sound crazy but im having some problems.Its happend 3 or 4 times today that when i leave out of house come back im seeing connection lost. I click ok type my password in and it wont let me in sayin the server might be down.I own the shard silverblade please help with any suggestions......Ive noticed that it will be on for few hours ok and seems like someone comes on does who knows what and entire shard looses conection pleas helppppppp

Sounds like your connection has issues, not alot you can do.

ok but i still can get on anything else that requires to b connected and no one else can log into the shard when i restart server i can get back on as well as everyone else

If you are behind a router, you will need to setup your forwarding ports. If you need help email me (Ultiman@gmail.com). If not that, your connection is giving out like said above.

I'm having a similar issue, May I ask what custom scripts you have from the RunUO script submissions? maybe we can isolate what script is causing this...I know its not a router or connection as I use a Hub and a dedicated server. I already have it down to 2 things, custom script or a player...I put my money on a custom script.

Quick question for both of you then, what OS are you running under? And is the server still running when you can't log in? Or has the server closed? If the server has closed did the server box restart itself? I only ask because I'm having a similar issue, but I believe I've narrowed mine down to the Operating System we are currently running under as we didn't have this problem until we lost our main server box and had to set our shard up on a temporary server running under windows xp, same ram, processor speed a bit slower, same hard drive, same firewall and router, etc...

Windows Server 2003 here, I've moved shard to 4 different comps, I also redid all the scripts into a fresh copy of RunUO RCO, the only common things between the comp moves and the rebuilding of the RunUO folder was the custom scripts and save files, this is why I believe its in one of the two. If you check out my link on other post you'll see my server window and the wierd disconnect....I'm really hoping to find a error in the custom scripts, Hate to delete the players accounts over this.

im running xp but this started 2 days ago server has been running since early to mid may for setup with no problems it will disconect me after several hours and not let me in.But it will still let some players play and log in and sopme it wont so i was thinkin it was a player as well but not sure and i cant find out who came on new during the last 3 or 4 days to check.and i havent added any new scripts since the 20th of july so im stumped

Oh damn, my problem is completely different. Wish I could help you two out, as I said I narrowed mine down to too many items in a very small area causing windows xp to throw an exception and reboot the pc. Removing the items from that area solved my problem, but I'm thinking that's way different than either of you.

ok i think i might have mine narrowed down to when someone logs off and it appears to be certain ip numbers it conect loss mine plus several other players can some one help???

If your are using a custom serverlist.cs whitch use auto ip from web site.
Is it possible that your provider DNS server are down or in trouble?

When this apen (can't log on) can you resolve DNS from the shard server PC? (just connect to a web site)

For the disconect part I asume that if some of your player base are trying to log and your server can't resolve DNS something will time out or take to mutch time and the client quits.

Its just a guess, but I did notice that if my internet connection is down, I can't connect to my server whitch is on my internal network (whit private address)

I also add many DNS trouble in the last month, they usely last less then 5 min.

dude i didnt understand a friggin word but i havent added crap as far as i know of its when some people log off is when me and several others crash and cant log in also i just wish i new what it was

ok lets make it simple: are you using a custom serverlist? Yes/No

If your enser is YES then post your server list.
If your enser is NO then I have no idea what your trouble is.


Asuming that your shard is local to you. (on your private network or the same PC where you play)
try this: disconnect from the internet(unplug your modem) and tell me if you can play one your shard.

if you can play then I have no idea whats wrong. but if you can't play, well you will need to understabd my previous post I will hep tho.

ok ive seen this twice wish i could go back and see if its been this way but 2 times now 1 account in particular has logged on then logged off and then so do the shard could i have someone with snafued ip or killin me i should say

Are you sure he log on and off or was it more like he try to log on and time out?

I wish I could explain better but my english is not to good, still this sound like what ever dns your using it not working somme of the time.

Juste do the test in my previous post.
unplug yourself from the internet and try to log on your shard. then post your result. (this is assuming you play one the same pc as the shard server or at a minimum the shard is on your private network).

Thank but realy your the one whit the trouble.

And no with a properly setup serverlist.cs you should have log on whit no internet.
Again assuming the shard is local to you.

This tell me your using mrFixit serverlist.cs or something similar.
your serverlist is using web site to learn the public ip of your shard and provide the proper local or public ip depending from where from where the client are connecting.

part of the code in severlist.cs

For this to work you realy need to resolve or in other word get the ip address of www.findmyip.com so you can connect to it and recive your public ip for the shard, this is done using a dns or domain name server.

Now stay with me for a sec and imagine that sometime and only for a couple minute the DNS use by your server is not responding to the request, that would prevent the serverlist from doing is job and set the proper ip for the client connecting, my guess is that when this apen to a couple of client your server time out and disconnect somme or all of the client.

Again and just so you understand. there everything you need in the server list to connect localy but you where not able to do it will you where not connected to the internet. This is due to the fact that your serverlist was waiting to recive the proper public ip witch it was not receving since you where not connect to the internet.

I think you are loking for a quick fix, but remeber that before you fix something you need to know what's rong with it.

If your willing to not log on localy on your shard for the duration of a test then just use a properly setup distro serverlist.cs for a will. I willing to bet that your disconnection probleme would go away.

If after the test with a distro serverlist.cs your are satisfy that everithing is ok, I could help you resolve to local login in the distro serverlist.

yes i got my updated serverlist from mr fixit got it 2 months ago to get around the firewall on router so people could connect i havent altered nothin to it and this started friday IMO if the serverlist was snafu wouldnt havce been doin this since day one and i know im not the only one with this problem????? dont mean to sound pissy

The probleme your experiencing is not due to the serverlist being broken, but due to DNS server on the internet being slow or enable to respond.

Take the time to understand how DNS and the serverlist from mrfixit are working and everything I said will become clear.

I know you wish for this probleme to go away, and no you don't sound pissy
and sure lots of people are having this problem, any one using the mrfixit will have this problem when DNS are failing. The larger shard who are hosted in data center don't have this probleme since they have no need for mrfixit serverlist.

I must sound crazy but belive me I'm not. If what I'm posting is not clear and or not helping you, just ask question I will try to explain it better.

dont ask but it fixed itself i had a shard crash one morning along with a network glitch and aols port magic quit workin and the shard has been up ever since....lol. so i dont know really what the issue was but it fixed itself

My problem is me and my wife can get on with th router and UOGateway see's that it is up but my sis in a differnt state and my freinds can't get on what is the prob? ty
