Unhappy Shard going down

For some reason my shard keeps going down, & I have to restart it like 10 times a day. It doesnt crash. It just goes down to where other players cant log on. The players that are on it at the time are fine. It just all other players cant log on. Its really getting tiring having to restart all the time having to cut other players off, so others can get on. PLEASE someone help me figure out how to stop it from doing this. It has been doing it since I started the shard, but it seems to be getting worse. I dont know if it happenes when players log on or just out of the blue.

Don't know what to tell you.

What have you modified?

How many people are on the shard when it goes down?

What are the specs on your computer, including connection?

What have you modified 2?

This is just a shot in the dark, but do you have any patches on your shard? Maybe if you have patches, your running out of bandwith for them on url you have them posted at. If this be the case, when uogateway does it's check, the url will not let it download. Then, perhaps when your quota recharges, however long a period that may be, it legs gateway do the download, and thus, letting players log on again. This would explain why some players can log on, then, it suddenly wont let others log on.

im thinking your ip address is changing thus disallowing any new connections.

Yeah, you may be right. Thats so simple I didnt even think of it. This could be a possibility. But, the ip would only change after a computer restart or somthing. Then it wouldnt make since that the players already playing could be fine, because they'd have to log back in. Unless, the players already playing are on a local serverlisting. Either way, mr. fixit's script would be an easy solution if this was the problem. And could hurt to dl and use, even if it wasnt.

Get a DNS server at No-ip.com

I am not familiar with how Mr. Fixit's serverlist works, but I doubt it will affect a Dynamic IP.
Iamanewb, even though your intentions are good, I would advise you to refrain from trying to help unless you are atleast 99% sure of what you are doing, or else people get VERY confused.

My advice is good. Mrfixit's serverlist will help a dynamic ip. And plenty of people post suggestions when they are a far cry from 99% sure of the problem. Yourself included, so, please, dont tell me what to do. Second, its not even worth my time to look at a post and try and help if im just going to get flamed for it. So, in conclusion, this will be my final help post.

shut it both of you...neither of you know whether your solution will work until s/he replies. -Nox- -- practice what you preach.

@imanewb: I was in no way trying to flame you. Re-read my post. If you think I was trying to flame you in any way that is YOUR problem, because I wasn't. If you choose to throw a hissy-fit and not post again, that is fine, do as you wish, and stop trying to make me feel guilty.

Please supply me with a link or an explaination of why your suggestion works, rather than freaking out, and throwing a tantrum.

That post was as friendly as could be, but you must have a bug up your ass that makes you pervert everything I say into an offensive statement. Once again, know what you are talking about before you speak.

@TMSTKSBK: I don't care if it works or not. I was suggesting that she try my idea, and that imanewb's suggestion sounded improbable. Also, I am 99% sure that using a DNS router will work, because I have used it over 9 times, every time it suceeded. Do not accuse me of hypocrasy just to troll me. Your post was of no value and was just to extract and angry response from me. Well, it suceeded, do you feel better?

your post may be useless if s/he is on a static connection.

in that case, it won't matter about the dyndns deal, and it will save him/her a lot of trouble to not do it unless they are on a dynamic connection.

of course, if they *are* on a dynamic connection, you are perfectly right. Fixit's serverlist is a favorite remedy of Phantom's, although I have never had any problems with the distro serverlist.

Smile Thanks

I want to thank everyone for your replies. I think I figured out the problem, cause its not going down anymore. It had to do with my port forwarding. There were two ports in my setup, & I disabled one of them, which I THINK it is to my printer, so I can print to my printer from my laptop. Well anyways, since I disabled the other port forwarding address, it has been working fine. Thank you all again!

Nox, your post against me was what I consider a flame. Although it was done in an indirect and polite manner. You have no reason to say anything to me about my attempts to help. No reason at all. Second of all, I owe you no link and/or explination about anything. You are in no way above me or a supirior of mine. I was trying to help unicorn, not you. Third, im not throwing a hissy fit, im just not going to try and help anymore, because a good 2/3's of the people on these forums are pricks. Know-it-all pricks at that, and I take their abuse when asking for help, because I need their help. But when trying to help, I will in no way stand back and take abuse of any nature, well worded or not, just so that I can help another person. Nuff said.

@devilstail: I believe you mean auto-log off or hibernation mode. Your can disable your screen saver and your hibernation timers.

@imanewb: The meaning of a flame is the following: "A flame is when a person makes an offensive statement trying to degrade/harrass a person(s)." I was not trying to attack or degrade you in any way, just state the fact that I disagree with your idea, and based on personal experience, that your idea was false.

Second, I know you do not owe me anything, but if you wished to uphold the validity of your idea, I asked that you give me a link or an explaination. Since you do not wish to do so, I have all right to claim your idea as false.

Third, because I have more experience and choose to share my experience does not make me a "prick". I have never claimed in any way that I was superior to any other human being. If you wish to assume that, that is your fault, and not mine. Because I am a veteran here does NOT mean I am an "ass", you just have had bad experiences with other veterans and choose to place a title upon me without even getting to know me, due to your own insecurities.

I suggest you meet me before judging me in any way, shape or form. Once again, I was only trying to guide you, disagree, and make you think in new ways. If you think that is offensive, once again, that is YOUR problem. Not mine.

Glad you found a solution without dealing with our bickering.

Sorry to hi-jack your thread, but imanewbie needed to be put into his place.

Good Luck with your shard!

Default enough already

jesus guys stop arguing in the man's thread. if you two have a disagreement take it pm, im, or email. too many threads get locked and/or deleted because self righteous, argumentative people wanna bicker in someone else's thread.
