You should talk to your provider, there isn't software to prevent this, prevention requires hardware.

There is software, but 99.9% of the time its software to control hardware and its customized by the people aka the data center.

This is what I got from my dataserver:

Code:
A denial of service attack on your server brought our network down, as
well
as the network of one of our upstream providers. As a result, your IP
was
banned by one of our tier one providers. There was no other option to
end
the attack.

Your only alternative now is to request an OS reinstall. However,
until you
can establish to our satisfaction that another denial of service attack
is
unlikely, your service will not be reinstated. If this is not resolved
before 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on November 9, 2005, your
service
will be terminated.

DMG Networks reserves it rights against you for any damages resulting
from
your use of a DMG Networks server. You are advised to review the DMG
Networks Terms of Service to determine the extent of your potential
liability.

Like I said, there really isn't anything you can do about it, but request for them to stop be.

What is funny is, if your willing to pay for the charges, why they would end their contract with you. They must not have a very good data center, should find a better company to give your money to.

Sheesh, sure is a crappy provider if they want to blame you for a DDoS which wouldn't have happened if they'd had the proper hardware to prevent it.

At least a poper policy when it does happen. Look at what Ryan's host did, after several hours on his request, they pulled the plug. They also have software turn down traffic, hard to explain, but it basicly controls hardware. Like I said, most of the time if any software exists, its made by the company.

THIS WRONG !!!

The guy want me to pay 5.000 dolars to put my server back:

LOOK AT THIS CRAP !

Code:
Please read this very carefully. We didn't block your IP. A member of
the
internet backbone, MCI, blocked it. We can't reinstate it. We don't
have
control over whether your IP can be accessed.

We understand that you are a victim of the attack. We are sorry that
happened to you. However, that doesn't change the fact that your
server (or
specifically, the IP assigned to it) was the target of an attack that
shut
down our network, as well as the network of an upstream bandwidth
provider.
That attack potentially cost DMG Networks several thousand dollars. We
had
many, many customers angry because they couldn't access their servers.
In
fact, some cancelled their subscriptions.

Reinstating your server is out of the question. Again, we don't
control
whether your IP can be accessed. Moreover, even if we did, we simply
cannot
take a chance that the attack on your server will recommence after it's
up.

Here's what we can do: we will copy your hard drive to a new server
that is
assigned different IP's. However, before we activate that server, you
will
need to make a $5,000 deposit to indemnify DMG Networks for any
additional
attacks on your server that have an adverse effect on DMG Networks. In
this
way, you will absorb the risk of another attack, instead of DMG
Networks. I
recognize this would be a difficult thing to do, but activating a new
server
with new IP's must be at your risk, not ours. We simply cannot afford
to
suffer another denial of service attack as a result of hosting your
games.

does anybody know a good host provider?
