Default No support over on ConnectUO....

Well, I posted a day or so ago over on ConnectUO and got all of two replies... one telling me to connect to 127.0.0.1 as if connecting to myself is going to help.

Maybe somebody here can help me.

After a number of "Learning Exercises" I FINALLY got my server to allow a couple of friends and Viper to log in!!!

It ended up being a port problem in the firewall, and the gateway, and running two firewalls at once (I didn't realize Windows firewall was running initially!), AND Finally..... I had transposed two of the numbers in my Static IP and was copy/pasting it instead of typing it in. (OK, OK, it was late and I am lazy and I had been at this all day!)

Anyway, as I said I got people logging in and creating accounts..... everybody apparently except *ME*!!

I left the shard running for over an hour but it never showed up in the ConnectUO Desktop list as far as I could find. I tried logging in using UOGateway and manually adding the shard info but it always tried to log me into the Origin shards.

I have since installed ConnectUO Beta 6 and the shard DOES show up in that list! However when I try to log on using ConnectUO I get that fateful message.... "Cannot connect to Ultima Online Please try later".

If anybody could help me with the problem of my shard not appearing in ConnectUO Desktop I would be able to log into my own shard because I could log into other shards there last night.

Thanks for all the help from those who tried to teach me how to do this. And Thanks to Viper for the final reminder to check my IP in the script. :/ Doh!!!

Try setting up a local server using ConnectUO.

It should have the IP address of your router.

Should look like 192.168.*.*

Default port is 2593.

This should get it working.

OK. On the desktop that is NOT running my server I did as you said,

Added a local server. Set it to 192.168.0.2 which is the IP given for that computer when I look at the Active User list on my home network.

I then double click on the server listing under My Favorites in ConnectUO.

The UO Client starts up and pauses for a few seconds and I get:

"Couldn't connect to Ultima Online. Please try again in a few minutes." with the background music playing.

When I try to do the exact same thing from the computer that IS running the server I get an error message when I click on the My Favorites entry for Burning Castles that says:

"System.BadImageFormatException: An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format........."

I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling my UO 8th Age CD's on the computer NOT running the server.

OK. A little Progress.

On the desktop that is not running the server.....

I use the 192.168.0.2 which is the address for the server computer.... I DO get a connection but nothing happens. It just sits there in Account verification until the server times out. On the server window I can see that I am making a connection because the IP is for the computer I am trying to log on with.

So, I am getting close!!!! Any ideas??

Oh, This is all with UOGateway. I cannot even get a recognition frrom the server no matter WHAT I try when using ConnectUO Beta 6.

Try downloading Razor and using it. It seems to have more luck than UO Gateway right now.

OK. This is getting damned painful......

I feel like I am taking inch long steps to the edge of some cliff!

Using Razor and starting Razor FIRST..... I set it to connect with 192.168.0.2 Port 2593 and I get a connection to the server. On the server window I see "Valid Credentials for Skinner" which is the Admin Account I set up. On the computer I am logging in with I see the shard listed: Burning Castles. When I select that shard I get the Authorizing Account screen then I get dumped and I get a message saying "The client could not attach to the game server. It must have been taken down. please wait a few minutes and try again." Yet the server is up and running.

So close I can taste it!

Since it sounds like you are using two different computers see if both the server computer and the computer you are trying to login on are using the same client patch.

Patching and looking at what patch you have is something I have never really been competent at. I see under the client properties that the client.exe for each computer's 8th Age install is 5.0.9.1.

I uninstalled both computer's complete 8th age package and reinstalled not letting either computer connect to UO for patches. I would assume they should both be pristine and thus on the same version.

I still got the same result. But the server DOES show me logging on to get to the shard select screen anyway. So close yet so far!

Are you behind a router?
Did you forward your port?

Yes. Others can connect to my server. I cannot from a computer on my home network.

Try replacing your serverlist with another one. I know that if you are using 1.0 Mr. Fixit's Severlist is a good one, if you are using 2.0 then I don't know if there is a good one to use or not. Just try replacing the one you have with a new one and see if that works.

Which serverlist are you talking about? Serverlist.cs??

I am runnung RUNUO 2.0 by the way. I am thinking there is something blocking the clients from handshaking or something because as soon as I click on my shard name the server disconnects me.

In response to the Reputation post made about my "complaint".

I don't see a complaint. A statement yes, setting up the reason I have turned here for help with something that is not really covered here. And if there was any "attitude" it was about the person suggestion I connect to 127.0.0.1. That's the kind of stuff I expect from USENET..... not here but then I could be wrong.

I asked a little help on a perplexing problem. That's all. And I get a "Reputation" comment??? Are skins THAT thin???

Well, I have no idea about the other crap, but using 127.0.0.1 is a valid point as people trying to connect to their own shards are frequently using the same machine as the server and it works fine in such cases.

And "commenting" or whatever you call it about lack of support on a forum that is directly connected to this one is not a brilliant plan.

Try this. So you've said that the local ip 192.168.0.2 Does NOT work. Right? Try and connect to the ip of the server, you can simply figure that out by doing this to verify that 192.168.0.2 is the current LAN IP. Start -> Run -> Type "cmd" hit enter -> in the DOS Window type "ipconfig" minus the quotes. Your real ip should be there along with other information (Default Gateway, Subnet Mask, and IP Adress). Once you obtain your information, log onto your other computer (Let's call this computer 2, computer 1 contains the server). Now, enter the IP which you got from Computer 1, into your Computer 2's (Razor/ConnectUO/UOGateway clients). I think I pretty much have explained the basics, any LAN computer should be able to communicate through LAN through any port. (No port forwarding required) What is your current router model too? Hope this helps. Good luck.

This is a loopback, no other computer but your own can connect to this. This normally is used to check if TCP connections work.

It's been mentioned quite a few times over on the ConnectUO forums that older versions of it do not support connecting to your server when it's running on the same machine as the client is. (ie: 127.0.0.1 or 192.168.x.x)

This has been fixed in some of the more recent versions.

Normally if one is using an older version of any software and something doesn't work then common sense dictates that you see if a newer release solves your problem.

I thought I had stated in a couple of places that I am or at very least thought I was running ConnectUO Beta 6. As far as I could tell that is the latest.

And I do understand the difference between older versions and I do go look for newer. Actually I had to get this Beta 6 version from my Brother-in-law as I could find no link to a download for it on the ConnectUO forums. And I spent from Friday last night trying everything suggested and trying everything I could think of to include uninstalling everything several times and reinstalling it just to be sure.

I don't think you looked very hard over on the ConnectUO forums.

Since Beta 6 was released on January 25, 2007 Jeff worked his butt off and got out a ton of updates!

This sounds like an issue another person I know had where Connect UO and UOG both would not allow him to connect it may be a rare problem but it can happen he has to use razor to connect also.

I know my post is not the most useful but it does show that you are not the only person having the issue.

As for connecting. With a router and firewall open the port on the wall and portforward the router I am pretty sure there was something else I had to forward but I cant remember for sure. Make sure the serverlist.cs is all correct using the "if you are behind a router" method and then if your connecting to the shard from the machine it is on make a local server listing in UOG or connect uo with 127.0.0.1 and the port you use if connecting from another machine on your home network use the same info others would to connect.

If the above does not work your problem lies deeper. I do not know if the version of .NET you have installed would affect this but you could look there also. I use 2.0 I haven't updated to 3.0 or heard of anyone trying it but chances are if it can cause a problem here and you did fully update then that may be it and you might need to uninstall .NET 3.0 and go back to 2.0 like I said though not so sure that can cause this.

Thank you all. I will look for ConnectUO v2.0 then. I did finally get online in my shard using Razor on the Server computer and setting the IP to 127.0.0.1.

I still cannot get on using the other computer on my home network however.

I want to assure everybody here that I had no intention of complaining about any of the software. I had thought most of my comments were fairly benign. I did not mean to offend anybody. And the reason for the extra posts was to clarify my situation as it changed. I am a product of the USENET. Been there for more years than UO has existed. Forums like this are harder for an old coot like me to follow well. That's no excuse... just a reason. If I offended anybody i assure you it was not my intent.

In any event, I know this exercise will be wrought with frustrations. I have done this more for my sister and brother-in-law's benifit as I owe them dearly. This is just a small token to them. They will be doing most of the work.

Now all I have to do is figure out wht Pandora's and the other programs from there are not working with .NET v2.0+??
