Default Need some help with server...

Im trying to get my shard connected so that I can make it public. I havnt had any problems connecting privately, but when I tried to connect publicly, I cant seem to connect.

Ive looked through the boards and have tried just about everything listed. Im behind a Linksys Wireless-G router, which I made a static IP connection for since I read I had to do that on a thread, then followed directions and I still cant connect.

Maybe Im doing something wrong?

the static connection is the one comming into your house - that the router itself gets - that one needs to be static (or close to it) more than anything else
cable even though dynamic is pretty static - only changes if they do their main server reboots or mess with your modem
DSL for the most part is not static at all for the most part and changes all the time

linksys sometimes does not like your computer to have a "static" one to it but to assign it itself - may want to sert it for that - to use the dns method

the ip address you give to the other people (uog, connect uo, razor, etc) for connecting through is the one used by the router and not the one to your computer - i.e. the 198.162.x.x is not the one to use

but in any case though - wireless routers are not that good for having a server on - they do slow it down and have many many packet loses - it is in their nature

So wait, do I need to set the static ON the router itself using http://192.168.1.1? Or do I need to static my actual network connection?

Im still confused. Im probably just not setting something up right, unless the wireless router is the entire problem in itself and I just cant have a shard.

I rpolly cant double post, but eh, I figured Id give a little more information on what Ive done so far so that it would be easier for others to help me solve the problem.

Heres the specs on a few things:
- Using a wireless G Linksys router attached to a high speed modem. Its part of a network, and the other computer reading off the router is a Linksys receiver on the other computer in the house.
- I opened up the router page using the URL that I was told to go to, did the admin password deal and set setup to be Static, with the DNS and all that jazz. I also went and opened ports 2500-2600 as I was instructed to do in another thread. After I tried that, I went to serverlist.cs that came with RC1 as default and changed what I needed to with something along the lines of "24.xxx....". I didnt get a connection, so I went back into the router setup and changed it back to its auto settings, which I think is DHP. Still doesnt work.
- I dont know if I was supposed to or not, but I opened my network connections on XP and made that connection static with the same settings as the router. That didnt help.

Basically, I need a step by step list of what to do, I got all the numbers sitting here in front of me, which I got from different sites online that were listed as links on other threads, and all I think I need to do is figure out where to plug them all in.

Also, as a side question, what number do I need to give when I create a local server on ConnectUO?

Thanks if anyone can help, Im getting kind of frustrated.

Step by step...

1. Set your computer to have a static ip address.
2. Set your router to portforward to that IP address port 2593.
3. Make the proper change in your serverlist.cs The IP address should be the same one that you see by going to IP Chicken - What is my IP? Find Your IP Address!

Those are basically the steps needed to do it. If you need help getting your IP address to be static or port fowarding, just let us know.

To create a local server listing on ConnectUO Desktop:

1. Start ConnectUO Desktop.
2. Minimize it.
3. Right click on the icon in the task bar and select.
4. Fill in the Host IP and Port and give it a name. (the rest is optional)
5. It will appear now in your favorites.

To creat a local server listing on ConnectUO:

1. Start ConnectUO.
2. On the left hand side, click Add Local Server.
3. Fill in the Host IP and Port and give it a name. (the rest is optional)
4. It will appear now in your favorites.

This is another site that helped me out when I was trying to set up my server.

Open Port Check Tool

just put in your port number cause it will automatically find your ip address, and it sends to your computer to make sure your port is open. Hope this helps.

Im pretty sure I did all of these things already. But just in case I screwed up, heres how I set EVERYTHING up.

Went first to http://192.168.1.1 and went to setup. Changed the connection type on the router from DHP to Static, and put in the following lines:
Internet IP Address: . . .24.160.199.169
Subnet Mask: . . . 255.255.248.0
Gateway: . . . 24.160.192.1
Static DNS 1: . . . 65.24.7.3
Static DNS 2: . . . 65.24.7.6
Static DNS 3: . . .

After that, I went into applications/games and when it said "Ports" I put the starting port at 2500 and the end port at 2600. It then had an IP address after it, with the end being 102. There was a check box for "enable" and I checkmarked it.

After that, I went into my serverlist.cs and when it told me to add the IP, I put in 24.160.199.169, then saved it.

After that, I made the server account on ConnectUO and put the address for that as 192.168.1.102

Thats all I did and thats where its currently at. Now, what did I do wrong?

Oh, and thanks for your help guys, Much appreciated.

You need to leave the router set to dhcp. Most isp's will disconnect your service for attemting to make your external (modem) ip static if they find out. At the very least, it is not likely to work at all. The ip that they were referring to being static is the LAN ip of the server machine.

You can test the majority of the situation by going to canyouseeme.org and entering port 2593.

Alright, heres the deal now. I can connect on my admin account, and the other computer in the house on the network can connect on a seperate account. But my friend tried to log in and he cant...so so far I cant get others outside of the network on the shard.

Oh yeah, and when I went to that site you told me to go to, I found out that my IP had changed....is that bad?

Well, it is definitely bad in that if people are trying to connect to an IP that is not currently assigned to your account, they cannot possibly connect to your shard...

So how do I go about making it so that the current IP is a set IP? I mean, the server is static now on the network connection I have...is there anything else I can do?? Or do I have to constantly change it in the serverlist??

You can either use MrFixit's serverlist.cs or you can get a no-ip dns address (google no-ip).

Well, I'm lazy so I would just get MrFixit's serverlist.cs from one of the sticky posts on the UOGateway forums (might be on these forums too somewhere, but I couldn't find it last I looked) and copy that over the serverlist.cs that comes with RunUO and you should be good to go as long as all ports are forwarded correctly to the server machine.

Alright, Ill try that and see if it works. How exactly is that going to stop my IP address from changing though?

It doesn't stop it from changing, it checks your IP at set intervals and changes the value in the serverlist.cs to be correct.

Ok, so I decided to check to see if the port could be read on canyouseeme.com. and after I put 2593 into the port, it said that it couldnt be found and that the "connection has timed out"

So I guess noone that isnt on the network can play the shard.

How do I go about fixing this beast?

Then it seems that you have some piece of hardware or software that is blocking connection to your machine. If you are using DSL, it is likely that there is a router in that modem so that will have to forward port 2593 to the next piece of hardware (your router if you have one), and from there to the server machine.

i found the best way to go about your problem is to search for dynamicdns
create a name for your IP then just make sure each month to update so they know you use their services still.
you get a notice in your email when your dns addy is about to expire and they send it a bit early so you have some time to check e-mails without being shut down.

The first thing to do is to learn your hardware and software because if that is not set up right, 10000 domain addresses will not help you get anyone connected to the shard.

Ok, I have my Linksys wireless-G router attached to an Arris DSL modem I got from the cable company. How do I go about doing what you suggest?
