CPU & RAM are both gonna need to be high. HDD, mid to high volume. Connection, broadband.

You have a 100GB internet connection available for hosting your server? I wish my provider had but a 1GB connections available for the thousands of clients he serves! Here in Holland a (shared) 28MB connection costs me about $62 per month.

pc doesn't really matter, just take a cheap one like 4 years old, single cpu 2000 ghz, 1-2gb ram, small hdd (not too old, size depends on how many saves you want to keep).

What you need is a good conn, you can't get it from your home they always suck. Go to a hosting company and hire a dedicated server and try the latency before you do so (ping/low ms ). Make sure they have uplinks to good carriers(depending on where your players are from), server uplink just take a regular 100mb.

And don't tell me they don't exist in the netherlands cuz im dutch and they exist here too. If you can't find one rent one in another country, doesn't matter much. Or PM me.

Latency is the key!

Little misunderstanding here; sure these connections are available but very expensive; but what I meant was that 100GB seems a a bit extravagant.

Quote from CEO:

I just checked my shard. We have 44 people online, on a 10mb link the interface is hovering around 3% to 5% utilized. Bytes received vs. Bytes sent is about a ratio of 1:3 (received/sent).

10000000 * .05 = 50kb per sec.

50000 / 44 = 1136 bytes per player per sec

Not bad at all, your mileage may vary. More testing/analysis would be needed to come up with more realistic and accurate numbers.

I think it is a typo he made, 100gb doesn't really exist. Normal for servers used to be 100mb and now there are a lot of 1gb offers.

It's just like with your network card they used to be 100mb and now most are 1gb. You would have to implement multples of them to get a higher connection. However no server will use that much and many providers cap it at like 10mb. Because the usage is usually only that high when your being attacked.

Also providers often advertise with their uplink to carriers. Like 10gb to globalcrossing 5gb to level3 etc. Thats not your direct connection bndwith thou.

Anyway in the netherlands you can get a dedicated server in a datacenter for lik 80-100 euro's.

Might not be enough, but im sure they will give you the option to increase it later on, just look for the price on that.

Did you ask for the ip-address and pinged it?

Greetings,

Just wondering where your going to get 100 ppl over night? I would suggest starting small, with a spare PC. Build your world and make sure it works. Get a few friends and then when your happy go all out.

Here is a thread that has some real world hardware requirements that might help in your quest.

Hardware and your shard.

200gb a month is plenty....

if you can deduct that each player is averaging 1kb a sec and if you were to say each player plays on average 12 hours a day(this accounts for ppl who get on and off quickly, and those that macro 24/7). thats roughly 43mb per player per day. So 43mb per day * 100 player * 30 days a month is 129 gb a month, you still have an extra 71 gb to play with. Also, i doubt you will get 100 players to start with, it will take some time to get that. But don't take that in a negative way, its just the truth and i totally encourage you to prove me wrong
