Default Question on freezing things....

I had set up a building, and added stuff to it and what not. I am wanting to freeze it to the static's file

so two questions:

1) I'm updated to 6.0.1.1.....is it still statics0.mul and staid0.mul for the files if for fellucca?

2) Will items freeze too if i don't move them? i have to know if i have to completly empty out the building to be able to freeze it.

thanks for the help

Simple answers: yes and yes

There are a few item types that won't freeze (teleporters, for one). Also doors will freeze (and not be able to be opened), so you may want to remove any doors on the building and add them back afterwards.

Hey on this same subject... I'm a little confused on the order of freezing statics and wiping. Say for instance, I have a map that is unfrozen to begin with. I freeze a whole town after building it, then move my statics from the runuo data folder to the UO folder, then restart the server and client. However, I'm still left with copies of the statics such as walls, trees etc. Essentially I don't want to keep deleting my save file, because I'd like people to be able to train as I build areas of the map. This makes me unsure of what steps to take while freezing and cleaning up areas of the map.

The save file is irrelivent from what i understand when it comes to freezing/unfreezing statics....you shouldn't have to delete.

and sometimes with the towns, it is stored funky....i think they used to use a diff file for some stuff...why i dunno but.

i had noticed this though when i had tried running a custom map. There would be periodic remanents of the old one in there and it was a pain.

when you unfreeze something, you have to delete/wipe it afterward. will it let you do that?

Hmm I was thinking the save file was relevant because it's storing all the items that are unfrozen in the world. My diff files have been cleared to 0 kb (I did that trying to get junk out of UO Automap). And yeah, after I unfreeze something I can delete or wipe it, my concern comes from wondering if I'll have to do a global world-wipe (clearing out all my spawners oh NOES!!!) if I froze the whole world when I'm completed with the map. Because when I generate a static it's like the items have been saved in a static but haven't been "freed" from the worldsave. Sorry if this sounds a bit confusing

Basically I had made a map in mapgen with random trees and other decor added. I unfroze the whole map, then we began construction on a couple of towns. With all the trees, etc in it's like 1,500,000 items literally in my worldsave. I have 6.5 sec save times, but it still concerns me that this will bite me in the butt later. It concerns be because as I freeze a town into statics and restart the server, I don't see my item count going down at all. Which leads me to believe.. I have a whole lot of wiping and replacing spawners to do :/

ok...when unfreezing, yes...relevent lol sorry bout that

...but you may have to wait and maybe ask in a seperate thread about this...i haven't ever had issue's like that...normally once i freeze something, it adds it to the static file, then deletes the item in question.

sorry i can't really help much passed this.

one thing you may want to try, is set up a mock server for your map editing...once you have the map the way you want, then copy/paste the new static files over to your real map folder for your live shard. That way you have the statics, without the possible heap of items.

that would be my solution until i could get someone that knew a bit more

Wow yeah see on mine say I froze a wall... well after re-synching all the files and jumping in, "circle of transparency" does not even work because I've got 2 walls... one in my worldsave and one in my static... and the one in the worldsave is blocking the view.

I guess for my situation I'll just have to wipe each town after it is frozen to remove the dupes. Hmm would be nice if I could allow players to place some houses though without fear of them being lost to a global wipe once my whole world is done. Perhaps I need to look into if I can use some variation of the wipe command to only delete walls, floors, ceilings, bah hell delete everything except possibly spawners, doors, and player housing lol.
