My computer has the opposite problem - it gets upset when I turn it off. I usually leave it running for weeks or even months on end, however when I turn it off it often takes a few goes to boot up properly.

I leave the music computer on 24/7, I turn the desktop on standby at night cause its too damn loud, and my laptop I will only leave on 6 or 7 hours a day because it starts to get so hot i could use it as a stove. And the family that lives above me (yep i live in someone's basement) have a computer that gets left on no more than 2 hours a day because the mother is scared of "radiation"

I leave my laptop on 24/7 and it hasnt melted yet

and yea its a 2ghz so it does make some heat, i do think they are made to withstand being on all the time.

I think someone else mentioned this as well, I use an actual air compressor. Compressed air is nice but it's a little expensive for my tastes, even in bulk. That's just my opinion though. It takes me about 5 minutes and mine is pretty much good as new.

you guys talking kinda got me curious and so i took a look inside the music pc and omfg! there is about 2 inches of dust everywhere! shut down the computer and dusted it out... goddamn that was the dustiest piece of shit i have ever seen!

Try opening a 1994 era Compaq Tower... They have the largest, and most consistant dust clumps I have ever seen...

At CompUSA we had this thing called a Power Clean... Bring in your tower, we'd blow out the dust, scrub the outside, defrag, virus scan, hard drive diag, ram diag, etc. $10, not a bad deal.

Anyway, we'd get those Compaq's in once in awhile, and NO MATTER WHAT... No matter who owned it, if they smoked or not, if they had pets or not, if it was on a floor, on a desk, anywhere... Those damn things would be SO filled with funk, that we'd see one, and pull out the shop vacuum cleaner :-P

Even though MOST of the time, it was REPEAT CUSTOMERS!

*shakes his head*

The only worse experience was the guy who'd bring it in after his cat pissed on his tower :x

Even after the FOURTH TIME, when we started refusing to work on the machine, he still wouldn't put it in a place the cat couldn't get to (Lick a desk that has a "closet" you can put the tower in)...

For me, it was the late 80's/early 90's plastic Gateways with the metal lining on the side panels. Never saw so much crap in any other model. Plastic cases..... who the hell thought up that one?
