HP owns Compaq now.
Wait till your power supply dies (#1 most common death of an HP/Compaq or eMachines), then see how much you're a fan ;-> (Especially when you find out your system is spec'd for 250W, and HP or eMachines only provided a custom sized/shaped 150W for the sole purpose of making you pay $80-$180 once the warranty is up) I worked in the CompUSA tech shop for well over a year, and we got that ALL THE TIME. (That and my brother's 14 month old HP Pavillion just had a PS die)

I haven't had an off the shelf PC in ages... well my palm and my laptop but those hardly count hehe.
It's amazing how much cheaper a custom built PC can be compared to the same system already put together. Plus it turns out that ordering components from all over the place has definitely turned out to be the cheapest and best option for me.

I would agree custom built is the best (from raw parts ofcourse) meaning dont call dell and say this is what i want in my comp i would say go to a shop and pick the parts that you want and then assemble it like that. Now if you dont have a whole lot of computer knowledge and want to go with an off the shelf deal i would say go with either a new HP or an E machine but thats only my opinion. i like the e machines cuz they come loaded for cheep and i like hp cuz they are extremely reliable and they have excelent customer support. I have never really checked out an alien ware so i cant give any opinion on em but they sound like they are really good from what other ppl have told me about em. NEVER buy a gateway they are less than oem standards thus making them inexpensive but i can tell you first hand just how horable they are every gateway is junk straight from the factory youll get anything from bad HDs to shit motherboards from those assholes! I cant say that dell is all that bad but they aint the greatest either kind of an inbetween brand. IBM is VERY good quality shit one of the best brands out there they have been around since the start after all. I think that anyone who knows anything about computers will tell you not to buy an apple hell i dont even consider them to be computers more like a cheep rip off of a computer and quite possable the worst of the lot.
Well thats my take on things and with that i say opinions to each his own ![]() |

After thinking about it i just thought id add the specs of my current comp. Right now im running an old HP Pavilion here are the specs on it:
Windows 98se 566 mhz celeron processor 192 mb ram still using the intel 810 chipset graphics driver 10 gb hard drive soundblaster live 5.1 52x24x52x LG cd burner those are a few of the basic specs on it. It may be older than the hills but it runs VERY well for how old it is and no i have had the same power supply since day one so as mentioned in a previous post about the power supply i can say that mine has held up just fine Hell i thought more than once about buying a new HP but im going to build my next one. I plan on custom building my computer for a few reasons 1. the price is a lot cheeper 2. i can build a better comp than anything youll find on a shelf 3. a comp right off the shelf is outdated and full of shit you wont ever use i mean why the hell would you pay for something you dont even want right so if i build my own it will come free of all that trash software ![]() |

Wow, you would be suprised if I told you I have a HP pav. 98 and it has if not the exact same specs, very close as I got it upgraded. It also runs very smooth for a over the hill computer, that I even host with. It works great with runuo. |
