Alright, I know I'm a bit old for it, but I'm a huge Harry Potter fan. Not one of the crazy ones, but I'm always impatient for a new book to come out. Book 6 was released on the 16th, has anyone else read it yet? I got it last night and just finished, just wondering what other peoples opinions on it were.

Heh yeah, that's what a lot of people say. Each book depicts a year in Harry Potters life, so as he gets older everything gets more serious. It's not as if they're for 8 year olds though, or are printed in big easy to read words. I would say it's geared more towards people late teens and up. I doubt a 12 year old would understand a lot of the intracacies involved. Then again, I might be wrong. I waved bye bye to 12 eleven years ago

I hear Harry Potter is well written, I wouldn't know myself. Never read HP books. However, I like Spongebob and that's geared towards children. Does that make me a bad person just cuz I like a silly cartoon?¿?¿?
What did you think of the book? Would ya recommend it to fellow readers out here? Ignore the immaturity lurking about.

I'd recommend it to anyone who likes mystery, magic, and evil. I'm a very avid reader, although sometimes I'm afraid to actually read a book I've been waiting for as fast as I'd like to read it. After I get finished with it, it's a little like the feeling you get when Christmas is over. Now us HP fans, if there are any around here, get to wait another 1+ years for the final book. SpongeBob is cool as hell, don't let anyone tell you different!

me and my daughters cannot wait to get the new HP book, although i am wary about how it might end, i am very depressed that it will all be over. *covers ears not wanting to hear spoilers*
i bought them for my oldest daughter and she had trouble getting through them ( she was 10) but my now 10 yr old loves them. I plan on buying it, reading it and then passing it on to her, as once i start a book, especially a HP i read until im done, even if it means foregoing sleep. Something in them just really drags you in and makes you be absorbed in the story. I know lots of other adults who read them too, and I mean mid 30's -40's. And Allen I know a LOT of adults same age group who love Spongebob. My Cousins family, my sister in laws whole family, etc etc. Maybe it's because instead of getting funny talking sponges we had cartoons like The Smurfs.

I've read the latest book, and would recommend the series to anyone who likes fantasy settings (as opposed to sci-fi)
One thing I was wondering: If Harry used an unforgivable curse to kill Voldemort, would he still be sent to Azkaban?

I haven't read the newest book yet; probably will at some point. Honestly, I'm looking forward to the new Diane Duane book far more than the new HP book, but I suppose that's just a matter of personal taste. I do recommend Duane's Young Wizard series to anyone that appreciates youth fantasy.
Oh, and some other things that were "meant for", or at least marketed to, children: The original Muppet Show Bugs Bunny cartoons Doctor Who 95% of Japanese anime released in the U.S., even though in Japan "animated" is a medium, not a genre. Saying that Japanese anime is all for kids is like saying that all American television is like "Barney". Anyway, I'm getting off topic, sorry. ^_^; How long is the newest HP book, anyway? Is it as long as four and five? -Janice aka kirax2 |

Book 5 was a tad bit longer than 6 is, but not by much. I cried through the last 50 pages of Half Blood Prince, just to give you an idea lol. I'm worried about how book 7 will end. I don't want the series to be over with either. And I think if Harry used an Unforgivable on Voldemort, the Ministry would give him an Order of Merlin, First Class. For those that have read book 6 already, the whole thing Dumbledore has been trying to do, I'm going to try to make into a long confusing quest for my shard. I think having the Unforgivables would be cool...don't think many would like the Avada Kadavra though hehe.

I like the harry potter books because of the size of the font and the formatting. Makes it very comfortable to read it for long stretches. As apposed to my Magic The Gathering books which are just like heroin in my veins but punish my eyes >_<

Never bothered to read past the third book, all three which were bought for me by my grandmother who thought the cover art looked pretty. Usually get all the 'big' plot points from Lj friends entries anyway. Nonmodern/scifi/horror/etc is more my thing.
Though Im randomly amused when I hear about press talking of how christian groups get all peeved over the positive portrayal of magic in the books. Yay for absurdity. |

Religious groups will blame anything they can to be contributing to satanism. Just ignore them. these are the same people that exterminated hundreds of thousands of people for not believing in the same god as them. Most of these sick, self-righteous people make me want to vomit my shoes out my nose twice..

Lmao! I'm definitely not religiously inclined. I think churches are all about the money. IMO, if you want to pray, you should be able to do it just as well at home for free, rather than having to get dressed in your best, go to a huge expensive building with other well dressed people who think they're doing the right thing, and pay money on top of it. God (or whoever people believe in, if you believe at all) wouldn't want your damn money. That's just my opinion on religion though
SOAD, I'm going to take a look at those books. Anyone like going to secondhand bookstores? The ones that let you trade in your old books for cash or credit? I like using them for a few reasons. I don't have enough room in my house for all the books I would like to have for one, and for another, it's a waste of money for me at least to buy a new book since if it's a good one, I read it so often the cover falls off within a few months anyway. |

I adore used bookstores, but I can never bear to get rid of a book. Since my husband is much the same way, and his father was much the same way, we have a LOT of books! Someday I'll try to post a picture, our whole living room is our library, with bookshelves on every wall. We keep our TV out of the way in an upstairs room. ^_^

Animated stuff rules. I love Family Guy, Futurama, The Simpson, Practically all of [adultswim]. Samurai Champloo is tight too. And Ghost in the Shell. Cowboy Bebop and Inuyasha are lame. I enjoyed Paranoia Agent while it was running too. Kept me thinking for a long time. Hell. Anything that is played on [adultswim] has to be moderatley funny/cool.

No where in the Christian faith does it say anything about hell. It says that the conciousness to give into temptation of evil deeds if called "Satan", but nothing about hell. Sooo... Technically "Satanism" is the belief that sinning is "Okie-Dokie". Just thought I'd point that out.
By the way, off-topic... My #2 pet peeve. Paganism IS NOT THE BELIEF IN SATANISM. It is closely related to the American Indian's belief, such as mother nature, etc. Sorry. Had to point that out. Switching off Religious Debate Mode. -NoX |
