I finally decided that today was the day I was going to install linux, only problem is, ubuntu and xubuntu hate me.

I downloaded xubuntu for my friends old pos compter and ubuntu for myself.

Xubuntu wouldnt work, said something about graphics, I will try again tomorrow.

Ubuntu will load up but then it stops displaying on the monitor, I assume before it gets to the desktop... @_@

I want to use ubuntu @_@

Ask questions on their forums. You will get answer quickly, especially if you provide details. Their community is ridiculous on support.

At home, I'm currently using Ubuntu Edgy and pretty happy with that.
Everything I need is either installable with apt/synaptic or runs fine with wine or mono. Though i haven't tested runuo2 that point. People who want to use Linux as a gaming machine for windows games should take a look at Cedega (WineX).

Beryl w/ AIGLX looks awesome, though they arent that stable (alpha) quite yet. but there are no such problems with the default window compositor to which you can switch at runtime.

So far, I've used RedHat, Mandriva/Mandrake, SuSe and Gentoo, but I think I'll stick with Ubuntu.
It's definatly worth a try before buying Vista.

Yah but you're gay.

I was using Slax on my laptop for a while. I'm going to install Fedora Core someday .. I have the ISO hanging around ..

I'll see what distro my linux teacher will use .. I'll probably use that for the sake of the class.

To be honest, Cedega is not that great. From the games I've tried (HL2, Guild Wars, I got like 5-10 fps. On Windows, I get 60-80. They work, but definitely not at the point of being feasible. I've heard that WoW gets good support though.

You get a smooth enough image a 20 fps .. or eyes see fluidity starting 14 fps.

20 fps is not good enough for any game requiring precision.
