heya folks. Finally cracked open DreamWeaver MX, and wanna start up a site

Cept I don't know how to use this program ... I'm tackling the Toutorials, but any additional information/tips/tricks would be great from anyone with experiance with Site making/Dreamweaver/Etc.

Using FreeWebs, in HTML mode, so I can toss in all of the HTML codes.

spend a month to get the basics of CSS and XHTML...it's a invaluable skill in the long run.

and dont use freewebs...there are plenty of good free hosts

there are a lot of sites that will host you. One site where you could find such people was pick-me.net ...looks like they are working on a new layout or whatever. You have more possibilities if someone with a domain hosts you, you can do php and have a forum and whatnots.

Dreamweaver is the best. i love it. its easy. its wat i use for programing like php, C#, java, ect.

once you get used to it and things start to flow. youll wish you had it back in the 90's =) hehehehehhehehe stupid notepad and Frontpage 98

It's the little things in DW that make it nice...like auto tag complete and auto tag close

Nah, I think Zend Studio is better for php programming because if it is attached to a server with the zend patform properly it can save you allot of time in debugging.

For other languages I for the most part use visual studio.

I use Visual Studio myself....I would like to get a copy of Fireworks though I like it for making custom backgrounds for webpages.

That's what I'm using .. I have Adobe CS, and Dreamweaver MX ... That's all I have, and I'm not much in the mood to look for any of these other programs. All I want is tips or helpful advice on using it. That's all. Not to be told that my web host is shit, or that there are other programs I could be using. I've never touched this before today, and want to make a site for fun - to expand my knowlede and understanding. That's it.

if you want to expand your knowledge and understanding you need to spend some time in notepad...

dreamweaver is useless if you don't understand the code its generating

w3schools.com

read the css and xhtml tutorials

Meh.
I'd recommend a slightly lower learning curve than bzk is suggesting. Although he is very right, you MUST eventually know XHTML and CSS if you want to do anything effective, you can just use the WYSIWYG portion of DW while you're getting the hang of it. Then switch to code view and read what you've done. When you get the general idea, read tutorials online, and try to do it from square 1 all in code.

Adobe is evil. I want them to die in a fire. Fireworks >>>>> Photoshop.
