I meant to post this an hour ago but I went out for a bit.
David, yes you are the moderator and you may remove anything you find personally offensive. This is true. Yet what bothers me is that you are apparently only moderating for yourself. Shouldn't you take into consideration what others may find offensive, whether or not it is publicly apparent? Just because I don't find something offensive doesn't mean nobody else does. And even if you didn't find that image offensive, you could still remove it because someone else might. I used to post here without having to think before I hit "Submit Reply" and never had an issue... but now this "unmoderated" forum is suddenly becoming more restricting in content. At least, people are more vocal about it now. |

Having watched this situation develop for months now, I'll post my opinion:
I agree. This doesn't seem like an "unmoderated" forum to me, and what's worse, we have that little subjective "within reason" clause that seems, from my point of view, to be a clause to be used by the moderators after any bad day at work. David is just the nicest guy, I can tell from his postings; so cut him a little slack. But I really think this situation is untenable. Either: 1. They need to stop moderating here, or 2. They need to revise the rules at starbucks. There was this fellow, a while back, who called out several of the regulars... his tude indicated he was truly a dick. He flamed these three regulars good and proper, albeit not with anything resembling wit, and voila: account terminated. Permanently. I'm wondering. Do the mods have any idea where and how the electronic term "flame" came about? Anything of its history on usenet? A "good flame" was a page long literary deconstruction of some other person, effective and malicious enough, or satirical enough, to genuinely embarrass and cause very bad feelings. "flames are permitted" here, or so the forum rules say (I happen to disagree, and think that community flame boards are a drag on any community, but that's not what the rules say!). I really don't know what the big deal is all about though. This "flame" forum is extraordarily tame. Prurile? Yes. But basically tame. C// |

I am a bit taken aback by the "forum is suddenly becoming more restricting in content" comment. From what I see Starbucks is chaos run amuck. You and others have pushed boundries far beyond what they have ever been, or I belive intended. The administration has made comments recently reinforcing the "unmoderated" aspect of Starbucks and I have tried to uphold that. But a very few people, yourself included, have managed to make this a place that only people who enjoy sexual inuendos and crude porn can feel at home. Trust me if I were moderating only for myself half the threads here would be gone, or at least half the posts in them.

If ANYONE can truthfully say

Playful banter (with NO pictures) is NOT actionable, but many of the jpg's posted here are legally classified as XXX and if no attempt is made to restrict access to at the very least over 18, legal action CAN be taken. Would anyone/anything bother? Who knows... I, personally, since I operated a BBS in 1991 that someone attempted to sue over some MORON's text post for tripleX content, tend to err on the side of caution, let alone what could possibly count as relevant to RunUO. |

I don't know about the rest of you but I for one was greatful for the " Creative Moderating " in here the other night when our special little Radwen decided to fill the screen with large amounts of bright red caps in a large font. The point here is really fairly moot. Much like true freedom of speech, a totally unmoderated forum is a myth to some degree. Having been a Mod and a GodMod on forums myself I know what a pain it is to do what you know you gotta do and still keep your posters happy. Don't take it out on David kids.. Remeber, he IS just doing his job.

There is only one Return and it's not "of the King", it's "of the Jedi"-Randall Graves, portrayed by Jeff Anderson.
I just saw Clerks 2, and I gotta tell you, it's a very good movie to watch on your birthday especially if you feel that you are at a crossroads in your life. One of the best movies Kevin Smith has ever written. I can really identify with the characters, especially the Character of Randall.

well since i have not put my two scents in i will now. David you are a great guy and a decent moderator. sometimes being both may not seem an easy job. yes this is an"unmoderated forum" but for the sake of the community there should be some simple limits. and truthfully i would hope most of them would be unnecessary to list. use your head. if it will be offensive to a group of people then why post it? i mean we can use our brains here. there are kids in the forums. think about it would anyone really want their teenager to see crap like that? use your heads people...for something other than a hat rack.
