Networking help!
Well, I have this router:
Linksys.com - Products/Wired/Basic Networking/Routers, Modems & Gateways/BEFSR81 I recently acquired an old laptop that's nice for chatting and browsing but not much else. I'd like to use it wirelessly but I don't want to have to buy a new router. Anyone have any ideas? I'm not big into this sort of thing so I don't know what products are out there... |

Does the laptop have wireless already? If so, just get a wireless card (or even wireless usb plugin) for one of your towers, set it up for ICS (internet connection sharing), and connect that way (it does work, just takes a bit of messin around). Can't use XP Home for this tho, FYI.

In the long-run a wireless router is always good to have and they are relatively cheap (about 2x the cost of a good wireless card). Since your laptop is currently not equipped for wireless networking I suggest buying a wireless card, doing ICS, and eventually getting a router.
Can anybody comment on the security of ICS? I have never actually had an opportunity to mess with it. **just finished the 3 theban plays by Sophocles**

A) buy a wireless router
B) buy a wireless access point to plug into your existing router C) buy a wireless card to put into your desktop and share the connection. only experienced minor issues with this.
