I've been a PC Tech for 10 years and have never seen that error. Need to know what OS UR running. Although even MS Knowledge Base has no referrnce to it. Make sure your USB ports are fuctioning properly, open device manager and make sure you haven't any exclamation marks or X's in the USB controllers section at the bottom or plug in another usb device and see if it works properly. Scan for viruses, which can hijack the functions its calling. Uninstall, make sure there are no references to the pgm in your registry and reinstall. The pgm is not creating a tmp file it needs or it is and your system just doesn't recognize it for too many reasons than can be listed. antivirus.com is great for ppl who don't own AV software. Goto the cams website and read the faqs.
I say you gotta bug

Also, as much as I hate to say it, make sure your MS product is fully patched, they like to break things with their patches and then quietly fix them with another.
BTW, BSD rocks!

MS would most likely not have much knowledge of errors generated by Vivitar cameras, most people would have reported those problems right to Vivitar.

Somtimes the knowledge base posts on specific problems with specific hardware. Mostly because the hardware manufacturers were oblivious to the fix. With all the software ppl load, delete, forget about, and/or let run silently hosing their machines, something is bound to react sooner or later. Sooner usually.

This is true, but we don't even know if it's an SLR, a digital camera, or a specialty camera. Vivitar does make some rather unique attachments and accessories that most people will steer away from just because they are a specialty item. That is why I recommend contacting them directly, Vivitar is a very old company that is established and is well known for taking care of their customers at the same level as Nikon. They've never really left the customer behind the way Cannon has.

Umm, just a thought..

Have you used the camera and is it attached to the PC when you try to load the pgm?

Quantos is right.. you need to call them if you have done everything that you could.

I believe he said he had a digi. Anyway.. I could fix it

Through a PM, I'm still waiting for a model number from him so that I can send him the correct phone number for the division he will need to talk to about it.

Ah, your initial point. Wasted space on RUO server. PM's do promote less garbage. :\

Actually my initial point was that your always better off contacting the hardware manufacturer directly anyway, no offense to the owner of the forum, but his traffic was the least of my concerns

L33T

Mandrake is really a great OS for newly de-matrixed wannabe linux users.
I stick with BSD just cause it has a great core
firewalls, gateways, mail/web servers. Great piece of work.

Quantos, really, try to talk to ECS. Alot of manufacturers are absent or offer bubble gum teks that tell you to Fdisk or Format like Time Warner and AOL used too.

Vivitar is an exception.

I can tell that you've never had to talk to a camera corporation such as Vivitar, Nikon, Hasselblad, Rolliflex...... They have pro equipment and pro service. You would be surprised at what they spend in development over hacks like HP, Epson......

nothign surprises me about HP Compaq they both have crap as support
terrible computers as well but i'll spend alittle more money and build my own machine. So saying the camera guy have good support wouldnt surprise me one bit they do cost more in general.

You're absolutely right, and it kinda sounds like you work/have worked or deal intensively with some. It also sounds like I need to change career goals. Even Asus is slacking in the CS dept. Who will be around when the dust settles is key.

HP, Compaq and Dell all use old pcchips and other bottom wrung components and dare us to match them. I can build better boxes in my sleep.

Take for example that a pro camera body alone will cost at least $1000.00 US dollars, and the lenses, plus camera backs go up from there. I can get you into a 10 inch x 14 inch Rolli(that's the size of the negative) for roughly $12000.00. The 35mm format is considerably cheaper, but to get a pro body you still have to fork out serious cash. The good camera makers spend more on r&d in a year than MS will spend in 4 years. If you want to go where the money is, get into pro imaging(if it's a field that interests you, otherwise you'll wish you were dead).

Ricoh has some really nice enlarger heads and field cams, if you want lenses though, nothing beats the swiss

PM or ICQ me, I'd be happy to point a fellow photographer in the right direction.
