AVI to MPEG. - RunUO

I need a good AVI to MPEG encoder, preferably free or with an unrestricted trial version. I must've tried 15 different fucking ones and they all fucking sucked. I'm pissed.

VirtualDub has big issues with some avi files. Forgot what exactly though, but it happens often when you import video from a camera.

never had that issue, but mainline virtualdub dropped support for mpeg-2, and vdub mod doesn't either (just avi, mkv and ogm) there is however a fork that still supports it I belive or you could always use an older version.

As long as you have a DirectShow Filter and CODEC for MPEG2 it shouldn't be a problem...

Now... Getting those, OTOH...

Even though AB swears against it, I use Xilisoft Video Converter 3 (find a crack). It works fine.

Uh-huh.. bu thats just lame, and it doesn't give the benefits of the other format, because it's encoded entirely different. It's like naming a Solitaire.exe to Solitaire.txt and expecting to play the game in notepad.

It works because computers are generally smarter than their users. The computer software knows how certain files look like and is capable of running the only convenient procedure.
