Default Map Extract

Have you ever wanted to created custom maps for your shard only to find that you could only create a custom map0 file? I also wanted to create custom map2 and map3 files with custom statics, but I found that Dragon was not able to do this function yet. The new version of Dragon is supposed to allow this, but it is too buggy to work. So I set out to find a way to create custom map2 and map3 files. Map Extract is the result of that need. Here is how it works:

First, create your custom map of the appropriate size bmp file ( 2304x1600 for Ilshenar and 2560x2048 for Malas ). Once your map is complete, resize the bitmap to 6144x4096 making sure that your map is in the upper left corner of the resized map. Fill the remaining empty portion of the bitmap with a valid color like water or blackspace. Now use Dragon to create the map and statics files for your new map. Dragon will create the files for use with map0. Now run Map Extract. In the source fields, select the map, staidx and statics files that were created by Dragon. In the target fields, specify new map, staidx and statics files for the extracted information. It is very important to select different names for the target files so as not to overwrite your source files while extracting. Select the map size to extract ( labeled as either Ilshenar or Malas ) and click the Extract Button to begin the process. Once the process has completed, you will have new map and statics files for either map2 or map3 that you can now use for your shard.

Dougan,

Was wondering if you could expand this to allow copying a bounding box between any of the map files?

There aren't very many good map copying programs, and most of them do not support Malas. The best one out there, UOCopy, doesn't copy Statics but rather makes you use another program to do the statics. It would be great to have a way to copy map pieces between any of the 3 map files.

I would be willing to give it a shot if I had the source - it's a little beyond me to do from scratch but I could probably make the necessary modifications on an existing program.

statics do transfer with this program. I've used it many times and it always worked for me.

If you use UOCopy, it does not support Malas, and to copy statics you need to use another program like WorldForge to do the statics.

I'm looking for a program that supports all 3 maps and will copy both maps and statics between any of them.

ok what does that have to do with this program? to use this one you make a bmp the size of malas make it all prety and stuff then expand it to fit fel mapleaving your part in the upper left then run it thru dragon it will turn into map0.mul. then use this program it basicly cuts the lower right side of map0 off and makes it map3.mul or map2.mul and all the statics go with the map so any use for worldforge and such is not needed.

I'm asking for the option to do straight copies of specific coordinates between 2 different maps. For instance, to copy a city or other area in Malas to a Britannia or Ilshenar map. This program has the potential to do that but right now it does not. With some minor modifications it could.

The only program I am aware of that does both maps and statics, UOCopy, does not support Malas and you have to use a seperate utilitiy to import the statics. It would be a lot more conveniant to have an "all in one" solution.
