Default FAQ: Create .MUL's that work for SE too.

OSI, being the yutz's they are, decided to release SE without using the Verdata.mul. For those of you who don't know, the Verdata.mul was a file that would overwrite images, animations, tiledata, hues and other portions of all the other .mul's. Now many people have these wonderful verdata's that are useless for their SE clients.

I'll only begin with a Gump tutorial... the rest is pretty much similar.

First, you need a program that can edit all of the .mul's: MulPatcher

Second... MAKE BACKUPS BEFORE YOU GO DINKING AROUND WITH SHIT CUZ WE DON'T WANNA HEAR YOU CRY THAT YOU FUBARED!

Third... Get InsideUO <-- This InsideUO works for SE

If you want the UO Desktop Pictures, keep reading... if you have your own .BMP's, skip to next. Download the UODesktop you would like, open InsideUO, and load the .UOP file into InsideUO (the .UOP file is really a verdata just renamed for the patching purposes). Then, click on Gumps, find the pictures you'd like to use, right click and choose Save as .BMP. Be sure to remember the Hex Value for each picture!

Put mulpatcher.exe in your UO folder and run it.

Go to the Settings tab and load the gump files (you need to load both GumpArt.mul and GumpIdx.mul).

Click back to Gump (no anim) tab and find the picture you wish to replace, right click it, and choose Load From Bitmap. Load your .BMP you want to use.

Go back to Settings tab and hit Save.

The GumpArt.mul and GumpIdx.mul are useable by all clients.

**Big Note**
Editing files such as GumpArt.mul and GumpIdx.mul can be overwritten when OSI releases new patches. You will have to save all the BMP's just in case they do so you can recreate an updated set of .MUL's.

Load your new GumpArt.mul and .idx and look to see if your new graphics are in there (either use InsideUO or mulpatcher to do that).

Im so confused right now i did what you said checked it with insideuo they were there no problem i saved it properly im sure if they are there in insideuo but in game there is no change. So how exactly can it display a gump that no longer exists in the mul right if i replaced it it should display the replacement not the original. This sucks.

Common mistake made by myself is...

Make sure your client and your server are using the same files...

Check to make sure your client files are patched.

Also make sure that if you are using UOGateway, you add the file to the entry (or replace it in your UO folder).

i dont remember, but i think that if you are loading a verdata file in the mulpatcher, it doesnīt include the information about layers, weight, names, etc... All that info are in the tiledata.mul, if you canīt use the mul patcher for that, you can use a program called tiledaeditor for that porpuse

ups XD, sorry then .

Maybe another way to do it is using muotool, you can download it form the gateway website. You open the program, import a verdata ( from uo-desktop if you like) and save it as xxx.muo then you compress it into a xxx.rar and upload it into the gateway ( admin option ), you connect to your shard and ok.

I think that way you can make it too... i hope it helps..

Well i just loaded the verdata with the uodesktop in it and saved to a .bmp using mulpatcher then i opened the bmp on my desktop and it wasnt the one i saved it was just the normal version of the gump so im a bit confused as to why it would do that and im thinking it may be part of my problem its like even though it should be using the new gump it isnt really letting my overwrite it in the mul

Insideuo gives me an error when i try to save it as a bmp from verdata says it is unsupported and shit so what i did was take a screen shot of it open in the insideuo window and open it in paint then cut it out of the screen shot and import it into the mul and save it and it saved it in the mul but i bet it wasnt saved as bmp properly i saved as a 24bit will that make a difference?

How are you trying to save it as a .bmp if useing insideuo it says feature has not been implimented and i think mulpatcher has an export to .bmp feature that works but if all else fails you can always open the picture of the gump useing a program like insideuo and hit print scrn then go into paint or other image editor and paste the sceen of it and select the gump and cut it out of the screen shot then save that as a .bmp and should work too but its the long way of doing it and i dont recommend it.

Probably because you have UO open.

Links not broken, had to take the comp down for a few days to repair another one.
