Default Ultima Online Auto Map...

Alright, my shard (UO Fire) has a custom map. I was having some difficulties before getting UOAM to work with the custom map, then I found out that I couldn't use the files patched with UOGateway. I got the original map files, and it works with UOAM. The only problem with this is that, if we give out the files to players to use with UOAM, then they could steal the map and host their own shard. Is there any way we can encrypt the map files and host them so only UOAM can use them? Thanks!

If your using UOGateway to patch your players files, then they could be very easily stolen anyways. Truth of the matter no matter how you go about it, the files can be stolen. If they use the map they can steal the map. From what I've seen most people that steal stuff like maps, art, ect. never last very long anyways.

Ah jeez you are right... I looked into it, all the UOGateway patch files are is that they are renamed and the extension is changed from .mul to .file

Here is the original custom map:
map3.mul 15,680kb

Here is the UOGateway patch file:
m3.file 15,60kb

I renamed the UOGateway patch file to map3.mul and dropped it in my UOAutomap datapath folder and, just as I expected, it works. Well, thanx for clearing that up. I didn't think that all it was was a changed name and extension...

In UO, the data is client side. UOG only provideds a "convient" way of transferring that data to the client, without disturbing the "normal" client data files. However, the data for any "patched" file is resident, in standard UO format, on the client machine once play commences. So any of that data is available (just as the orignal UO data was available) for manipulation, acquistion, etc. There is no way with the current client to make available custom artwork/map/data without also making it available to be "stolen" (as the orignal UO data was "stolen" given this use of the term).
