Unhappy Mulpatcher Questiong

Hey all, I have tiles in my art files that I want to link together to form spells and moving objects. I use Mulpatcher for most things and hope you guys can help me. I have been on other forums and asked this question. How with mulpatcher do I link tiles together to form animation sequences? I got a tiny tutorial on it and it told me this:

I Need A Program That Links Tiles Together To Make An Animation - SphereServer Forums

Now I tried this and set it up just like this and also tried different variations of this. It seems like mulpatcher is broken when it comes to this because I try to set the picture order on the frames and it won’t let me set it. I have tried other older programs to see if it was mulpatcher and they ALL cant make animdata.mul open or cant seem to make animations from tiles anymore. I also tried pulling an animdata.mul file from my old renaissance game and still NOTING worked. Did OSI mess with the files or is my computer messed up? Or what? Anyone know?

TDV Mulpatcher can do this, just be aware that the error checking in the program isn't very good, so if you do something wrong it will very likely crash.

To my knowledge it's not a problem with the file format, OSI hasn't changed anything.

Make sure your files aren't write protected. Also make sure you are setting the animation flag in the tiledata. Take a look at another animated tile such as a Moongate for an example.

Wish I could guide you further but I'm at work and don't have access to the program right now. But it DOES work.

Well i tried both setting the first tile of the animation to animation, and that didnt work then i tried setting all the tiles to animation in tiledata.mul and that didnt work either. I wonder if my computer is just messed up somehow? there is not read only or anything on these files. It just doesnt want to work for some reason. I checked the moongate and all the frames have animation checked on them and all that and so i tried compying that and still nothing! the picture number seems to not want to change from picture 0 to anything else!

Ok, I am at home now. Here are some step-by-step instructions.

From the 'settings' tab, load these files (in this order):

Load art.mul and art.idx.
Load tiledata.mul.
Load animadata.mul.

In the animdata.mul tab, select the art ID that has the first frame of your animation.

Enter the total number of frames for the animation in the Picturecount box (includes the first frame!) So if your animation consists of 5 different art IDs, this number would be 5.

The dropdown box will populate itself with an entry for each frame number. Choose the art ID for each frame in order.

Save.

Go to tiledata (S) Tab.

Pull up the art ID for the first frame of the animation. Check the animation box for this art ID ONLY (not the other frames, just the first frame).

Save.

That should do it. Add the animated art by adding the first ID (first frame) of the animation.

So this part is the problem i am having right here:

Enter the total number of frames for the animation in the Picturecount box (includes the first frame!) So if your animation consists of 5 different art IDs, this number would be 5.

The dropdown box will populate itself with an entry for each frame number. Choose the art ID for each frame in order.

The drop down box for the "picture number" no matter what i do or what order i do things in will not stay on the selected picture number at all.. i cahnge the second frame to picture 1 and when i mess with anything else or move to the next frame it resets back to picrtture 0 for some strange reason! ah! im soo frusterated.. i can't believe i am the only one with this problem! i have tried several animdata.mul fiels and several versions of mulpatcher and they all do the same thing!

like when it comes to settingthe frames up i make it 4 nbecause thats how many tiles my anim is and i set my first frame to picture count "4" do i change the other 3 tiles to picture count 4 also? none of this is working for me!

I'm not sure how to help you other than to say "just keep trying different things". It works for me.

Yep the first tile points to all of the other frames. The rest of the frames don't need anything special. Sorry I wasn't clearer on that.
