You would either need to modify the existing code on how the House area works, or install a system like Knives Townhouse's to your shard.
The Townhouse system is really recommended in that not only can you set a house area to whatever size you want, giving an area beyond the house itself and having ability to place things outside (like you are wanting) you also have ability to rent the house's, and even setup town buildings as a player house, and sell them as well.
