This is a series of viruses that have been floating around the net for over half a year.

Microsoft DOES not, HAS not, and WILL not *EVER* send updates via email. You can only get updates from WindowsUpdate and Microsoft.com.

Even if it was on your computer, it would only take effect if you ran it. Deleting it without opening the attachment (patch.exe) first is fine.
