Make a uo shard

Hey guys whats up im new here and I was wondering how do i make a ultima online shard.. They used to be wicked easy when Uogateway was around but now since It was disengaged its hard for me to make one... I was wondering if someone could make a video or tell me what to do on here on how to make a shard.. and if there is a real easy way for noobs like me on how to do it.. ide greatly apprieciate it alot thanks a bunch...

UOGateway had nothing to do with MAKING a shard. It was a front end loader for your players to find you in the index of other shards that was listed. It did make loading file patches easy... BUT, ConnectUO, when they fix it :D does the same thing. Until then use "razor" for players to connect and set your files on a FTP link thru your personal web page..

To "MAKE" your shard...download one of the many server set-ups that this commuitiy offers.. RunUO 1.0, 2.0 rc1, 2.0 rc2 or the latest SVN version for a cutting edge set-up. That will give you an OSI clone shard (yuck boring IMHO) but, thats your choice :D What version of the UO client do you want to use?

I strongly reccomend you grab some of the fantastic script work this communtiy has to offer. Plug them in, learn how to maintain and modify them. DONT become another 30 day wonder shard, theres good ppl here who can teach you alot about how to keep it running, updated and tweaked for some nice customization. YOU just need to show your tryin to learn an not just "hey guys will you fix this" Use the search feature here most things have been asked 100 times.

Personaly, I'm a map/statics guy. If you want to design and build a custom map/buildings for a real home made shard, I can hook you up.

Hey dude thanks for the tips.. I have razor what is the website to connectoUO was just curious maybe that will be easier to use or somthing... I wonder what happened to Mr. Fixit... lol I knew that wouldnt last long i heard he kept getting lawsuits from him from OSI UO servers lol... Again thanks for the reply!:)

Mr. FixIt walked away an left it to rot (or so one rumor goes). The site itself was buried with Porn links and handled very poorly. The fine folks HERE have stated they purchased the domain name for a future project as yet to be revealed.

However, it had a major crash and has been in the rebuilding stage for that past 2 months. I know yesterday Ryan stated that it was very close to being restored.

Here is the issue

I'm currently stationed in afghanistan for the US army

The internet connection here is horrible and i cannot play UO with the connection.


Now i was wondering if it is at all possible to set up a UO LAN server because the barracks i'm sure i can find about 50 guys to connect to it and play.

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with finding the best way to do this and instructions on how to get it started.

Maybe recommend a few other programs to do some manipulation (like if i wanted to create a dungeon in the free time or monsters or new houses etc etc)

I figure i can use all of them as test dummies as myself and then release it when i get home after the deployment. and start letting others join in :)

If anyone at all is interested in helping us out with our boredom problem and helping us to get our gaming fix.

ok so im new to this. i mean really new. i have the download for the sever i messed around with the scripts to set the items to what i want and what not. but i have no idea how to set it up for me to play. for others. or even how to make the skill gain faster. can anyone help?

Check a few of the sticky threads on the forums which explain how servers are set up.

I guess you downloaded runuo RC2?
Then don't use the newest UO client for it as EA changed things, that runuo has troubles.

I think 6.0.0.0 UO clients up to 7.0.0.0 clients should work

Try installing those and start the uo server and then connect with the program Razor.
First use your internal ip 127.0.0.0 and work from that until you can connect to your external ip .. you will have to open ports on your router for that and have a static ip and such stuff.

But best is to read up a few threads to get a feeling what works and what doesn't
