Ubuntu + IP address vs text address

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10, and am having a problem connecting to some shards. I am connected via LAN to a laptop that is running vista connected to a router via wireless. I can connect to some shards using their text style address, but some i have to connect using the IP. Has anyone encountered anything like this or know what to look at/for? People are having the same issue connecting to my TS3 server and runuo install.

so if i change dns servers on my computer it'll fix it? or did you mean the other end?

try using opendns. It could also be a problem with THEIR IP changing, and not updating the DNS server. It could be an expired DYNDNS account.
