It appears as if EA are actually scrapping the old UO file formats in preference for the new .uop format even for the old 2D client.
They have just released the classic 2D client for Stygian Abyss with all the new stuff but alas it doens't look like we can use it just yet because everything has been changed, this could be quite awkward regarding the server as the RunUO core will need to be rewritten to extract data from the new file formats. Just a heads up so we can start looking into getting this supported before the current 2D client becomes obsolete.

If that is the case it looks like we may start seeing tools that can handle the .uop format. I look forward to that actually because it could mean that we might see support for the SA client as a side effect.

Aren't the UOP files the ones for the patches... why would they use the same file extension...

Uhh, so ya, the file formats didnt change, LordHogFred i don't know what you are looking at, but I downloaded the UOSA client, and its exactly the same file formats. And if you notice below... map5.mul...the SA map..

No idea, I thought it was a bit odd when I saw them.
I assume it means Ultima Online Package as opposed to Ultima Online Patch. Who knows?
It's a long shot but has anyone looked if they actually are the same format?

EDIT:: Ok my bad, had a bit of an idiot moment there. Problem was I installed the classic client over the SA updated client, sorry guys :eek:.

Yeah just noticed the new encryption, was kinda expected though.
I'm just looking through the art files, etc to try and find some of the new art but it's all shown as missing tiles except for a few pieces if new gargoyle armour which isn't that impressive.

It's pretty close, I can't think of much that we don't have.
Hopefully SA won't take too long to implement as it seems to be expanding on stuff already implemented by ML, more peerless, another race, etc. All the base work is there it just needs adapting to cater for SA :).

You're not wrong.. there are new UOP files..

Very true. Now that we have one additional race I can't see adding a second being all that hard. Even if the peerless in SA work slightly different from the ones in ML I am sure you could just make a few changes to the existing peerless so that it works as it should.

the map files seem to be the only format that remains the same, all the new art and animations are in the .uop files. Has anyone found a way to open these yet?

Found it, UOSAClassicSetup, yeah, was just looking in the wrong place... it's awfully slow, however...
