8 Reasons the World Will End In 2012

I'd like to know where the Mayans "predicted" that the world would end in 2012. Only thing I've ever seen on this is simply that as far as we can TRANSLATE their CALENDAR ends then. A calendar that was made out of stone by a culture that pretty much no longer exists. We dont even know if we are reading it right. Hell.. it COULD be a cookbook for all we really know. My calendar ends every year. Does that mean the world ends every year as well?
Ok.. I just looked at a pic of the thing and MY translation says this....
The internet will cease to exist in 2012. No more UO, no more forums, no more porn sites.. Yup... I guess maybe it WILL be the end of everything we know.

Your right, it's merely the end of their calendar. Many believe that it would merely be the end of the age, not the end of the world.

The King James version of the bible also fucks up too many translations. It throws in the end of the world in a few of those translations which is the reason many bible thumpers believe the end is coming soon - when the correct translation is the "end of the age".

Get off me JMaNN #2, you're ruining my master plans!

I was completely serious when I posted it - especially #8.

You have me all figured out, you're so smart.

A cyclical interpretation is also noted in Maya creation accounts, in which the present world and the humans in it were preceded by other worlds (one to five others, depending on the tradition) which were fashioned in various forms by the gods, but subsequently destroyed. The present world also had a tenuous existence, requiring the supplication and offerings of periodic sacrifice to maintain the balance of continuing existence. Similar themes are found in the creation accounts of other Mesoamerican societies.
Start with the sacrifices already!

Fairly certain consensus here has you as J MaNN #2, not me.

And come on. You believe in the Secret. You can't even pretend you didn't believe this end of the world crap. You are king of gullibility. Stop trying to save face now.

Arkad, WTF are you worried about? You will no doubt be sitting on some spaceship with an anal probe sticking out your ass getting a front row seat to the whole spectacle by then...

The grass is always greener on the other side. Unless Chuck Norris has been there, then it's just full of blood and tears.

I know, my reputation with the internets is at stake here! I need to be ultra-careful.

AARRHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok I feel better now.

People look up info... there is actually a reason why they say the world will end.
Will it end, not likely but what will happen is this:

The Mayan are right

...21-12-2012 is not a day like any other. Up in the sky, an extraordinary and incredibly rare event will take place. The Sun will move to a unique spot in the sky -- and hold still for a while, since it is solstice day. The Sun will sit precisely on the heavenly crossroads between the Milky Way and the galactic equinox, forming a perfect alignment with the center of the galaxy.

...they knew where the galactic equinox and the exact middle of the Milky Way lay: they called this crossing `the Sacred Tree'.

...But actually, the Maya's never predicted anything concrete about 2012...

...Only a handful of scriptures survived. And in them, there's not a clue about what happens when the Maya calendar ends.

...The Maya's didn't really believed in endings: their conception of time was circular, with every end being the beginning of something new. So, 2012 shouldn't be an exception.

Also, the Maya's had a highly developed philosophy of the cosmos. They saw the cosmos as the true mother of things. Consequently, the Maya's thought the cosmos is all around us, and within us. Every plant, every animal, every man is sheer Cosmos.

The Scared Tree is in essence where they believe life started. The last time this happened was some odd 28,000 years ago. Also they believed that there were other worlds before this one, there is no real last calender of the Mayans, merely last known. Considering how much was destroyed by the Spanish Christians it is hard to say.

Now practically, these calenders were made in a pre-Columbian time, 2012 was a long time away from then. Maybe they just didn't get around to publishing/making calenders for the rest of time! They had a life to live after all!

So yeah they have some foot hold into real events that are really astounding. However lets not take this truth of the galaxy and turn it into an Apocalypse.

Ok at least get your facts straight.

The Haldron Super Collider goes online in August of this year, anything thats going to happen with it will happen this year.

The Mayans predicted that it would be the "End of the World as We Know It" that could mean anything.

Sun Storms...could you maybe post a link of where your getting your info, everything Ive read says the exact opposite (they are expecting huge storms but they havent happened).

The Bible....pfft enough said.

I could go on but I'm busy......

in all honesty ive read about the sun storms, there was an article on yahoo news saying there was a pretty big solar flare that indicated the sun cycle was begining any day now, ill see if i can dig up the article again, it said i believe radio waves and power grids in california was effing up, but theres been no news reports of it, so how much is true i cant say

http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,2072861,00.asp?kc=ETRSS02129TX1K0000532

theres a link showing some info on the solar flares in the past disrupting somethings nothing major but just a few things

but, i do agree with your statement, but as i said, people interpret what they wish out of things

You really are king of ambiguity.
Look at you, you can use big words! Please... Stop pretending your really smart. It is doing you more harm then good.

O yeah, what do you want? Details? There predictions. Of course there's going to be uncertainty. The point that I was making is what I SEE and where I think this world is headed.

Everything dies, that is one of the certainties of the universe.
The oracle from the movie the matrix said it best. Everything that has a beginning has an end.

The end of the world happens to all of us everyday. Its called "death".
Yep, the meaning of life is death. Besides survival and replication the point of life is to prepare your self for your own death.

you're

rofl ambiguity is a big word? what are you, 5? It's the best word that fits, and I used it. If words like that make you feel inferior to someone like me of all people, you really have issues.

they're

Sure. Usually when you make a prediction you have some sort of evidence to back up your claim. Or at least that's what intelligent people do before doing such. Weathermen excluded. Without any evidence or anything, your predictions don't hold water.
