RunUO Banned From School

Sunshine said:
You know that is cold and WRONG .....You really think a child who over months of talking to someone deserves this?....there are kids killed because they trust some sick bastard who lures them into believing them....

I am shocked and disappointed to know this mentality exsist

That is where the parents need to step in. Myspace shouldnt have to break their back to keep kids off, the parents should be breaking thier back to monitor thier kids.

Yes I agree and posted that not long ago

Parents need to be accountable...but saying a child dervese those things is not right..NO CHILD..desrves that...they do not think with a mature mind they are children

Anyone stupid enough to reveal enough of him/herself to a stranger online deserves to get tracked down, molested, and sold into slavery.

You telling me you think they deserve it? that is the point I was making not if parents should hold responsibility too .

PS Parents should not let their children go to places that have access to all places if they wish to ensure their child does not use some sites..(plausable? I doubt it )...I was only referring to schools blocking things

Schools should have blocking things for porn, and shit like that. I once saw a site that was blocked for being (And I quote) "Educational". Granted, that was because some kid hacked into the school's mainframe and changed it.. Gave us all a laugh cuz he changed the password to it as well. But blocking humor sites and sites like RunUO (Considered Gaming, WTFmate) shouldn't.

well I am sure I will get slammed..but here goes

As a teacher I do not see where a child trolling the run uo forums will be a benefit to their education...now if the class were to be creating a game or something requiring the same program language, maybe...

But the internet should never replace the education. I taught where Computers were taught from kindergarten up..and in the middle/high school the students had to be monitored every second because they are children and wanted to do things they are not allowed to do ...

I say there is plenty of time to troll the forums when you are out of school. unemployed or heck at work ....

The same filters that blocked the kids blocked all staff, I saw no issue then and it was before I became so old and decrypted

Education doesnt exist anyways as it has already been replaced by sports. The only problem I have with current methods of blocking is that the people who set them up are ignorant. My school blocks google images because they are worried that inappropriate images might be found. When I was taking a web design class last year I wasn't even able to access the w3schools tutorials site without using a proxy because the blocker was over protective. I personally don't feel comfortable with a bunch of novice internet user politicians setting the standards of what will be blocked and what wont.

Granted the internet is a wonderful information gathering tool...it provides us with all kinda information from everything to the mating habits of the aardvark to how to guides for those of us that want to build our own lightsabre's....but in all honestly a large majority of the Net has no place in a class room.

I wish the US would adopt a year round school program one that only has short breaks for major holidays that way our students could compete with countries like Japan.

Well I still believe in Education system..yes it needs to change some but my state was making huge changes...I can not speak for every school system every where...but then none can or should... I am sure those who are Educated to block and set up networking in schools have been through all the grades and graduated from college...know a bit about blocking..

Oh PS schools have to follow this little annoying things called state and federal laws....vote for those who believe like you do to make a change...

Kids should go to school to learn not troll public forums..do that when they are suppose to be doing homework..then blame the teacher because she gives just too much homework for johnny to it into his schedule

In Ky that is up to each School system to decide their schedule...I know some in the area did go to year round but some choose not to ...

Again that was left to the shool district as long as they followed the laws as far as number of days and hours a child recieved an education...ect...they could decide

Public school simply needs to be abolished.

Nooo We can not..who will we blame for our uneducated society?? you and not believe the people hold any responsiblity in becoming educated??

You are 16?

If yes ..well wait till you are out there supporting a family and trying to make ends met and then tell me what you think ....

I don't beleive public school needs to be abolished I do think it needs reformed into an honest open unregulated enviroment for education...meaning that facts are what is in the class room not slandered biased views on subjects like History....

I also beleive that sound finacial pratice should be included into school, The School system as it is does only one thing. It breeds ants, meaning it breeds the next generation of workers for the tax mill it does nothing to develop sound investment skills or other skills and knowledge that will allow a person to maintain and develop finacial independence.

The worst advice you can give a child now is to go to school study hard go to college and find a good job to stay at till you retire....

What you should be telling them is this.

Go to school study hard go to college and find a good job, suck all the knowledge, skill, and information out of them you can and then go to another company that will pay you more for it.

Social Security is a non factor for most people in my generation as it will mostly likely not exist when we hit that 72 year mark. Companies are not giving pension plans anymore for the most part so you can't count on that, so what do you do?

Invest in your own retirement. 401k's are easy to roll over from job to job..if you continue to make more you can invest more in it....also outside investing in things such as real estate are always sound decisions (You can't go wrong investing in dirt because they aren't making any more of it) as long as you know how long to hold on to it and when to sell it off...Stocks while risker can yeild HUGE returns even intodays stock market..Bonds are safe ways to invest money for savings...

School dosen't teach you any of this....and it should if it did poverty wouldn't be as bad now as it is.

I was home schooled for several years (off and on). Its much more efficient than public schools in that I completed more work in a day than most public school students complete in 3. A standard day for me was no more than 5 hours in home school but in public school, from 7:40am to 3:00pm, my time is their time (not including bus ride). Funding a home school system is also a lot cheaper than funding public schools. In public school my GPA never tops a 3.0 but in home school I ended the year with a 3.8. Home schooling also teaches valuable skills that students would normally not learn in public school like how to wisely manage your time (I created my own schedule for 8 classes). Did I mention that in home school I earned 11 credits in a single year, thats almost the equivalent of 2 years of public school.

Wonderful but really you are the exception...can you imagine some of the uneducated people who are lazy and want to suck the life out of everyone and everything they can if it means something free or easy for them..can you imagine them home schooling their children???

I recall one year my school system took a stand with head lice...said we would no longer let any child come back to school that still had nits...one parent stood up and said it was OUR job to comb them out she did not have time to ....My school provided FREE sprays and shampoos for the lice..

I was like ..well can I count them on my tax forms as a dedication because I am responsible for the education, moral maturity or lack of and now I am to be responsible for grooming them too...

We had children who came to school whose only meals was the ones they got at school..some came in dirty clothes and the teachers and counselors got together and got them clothes..so every day when they arrived they were washed and re-dressed in clean clothes and sent on their way..the next day they would arrive in the same clothes from the day before only they had not be bathe or washed..so we re did the process..why? because they could not learn when they were ashamed of how they looked..they were made fun of for stinking ..we tried to step and help remove that obstacle..

We had children come to school who were not able to do homework because mommy's and her bf were up drinking and fighting all night...

We had kids come to school who were beaten by adults..I mean BEATEN...

We did not get to luxury of having only the kids who wanted to learn. who came from supportive parents and a loving home...we had them all ..and we had to find a way to reach each one...

Some teachers like myself teach because we care. we want to help we want to make the world a little better...

I am glad you had a good experience and came out all the better for it..not all have that...but lump us all if you must...

Some kids who are home schooled come out being morons ....and can not pass a simple equivalency test..but I do not think home schooling is bad as long as the educated are teaching the educated

You are the excpetion not the rule

Perhaps things would be better if reproduction required a license, that and if CPS actualy did their job (or atleast did their job properly).

Have you ever noticed that intellectually ungifted people usually have more children than intelligent people?

BTS has the right idea here.

Love your kids? Prove it by beating them.
