I don't all teaching by agression teaches is how to be agressive...People are for the most part products of their enviroments. There are much better ways to punish children and instill good traits and values into them at the same time. Make them sit down and read a book and give a report on it... do something but don't hit them it will only come back to bite you in the end...teach your children how to think not how to react.

Your 12 so your in 6th grade? It only gets worse as you move into high school. Learn how to educate yourself during your free time or else you come out of high school a typical dumb american ditch digging drone.

err My daughter came out very educated and my grand children are too ..I think maybe you are thinking all schools are like the ones you have gone to? You said you have moved alot? and that means changing schools alot..no you were home schooled part of the time...well Just know not all schools are bad..not all teachers are bad..

I see it as a 50 50 thing..a good teacher who is there because they love to teach ...and a good student who is there to learn...both win and both are successful....if one side is short then the outcome is not soo good..

If the schools produced this drones..who will be teaching the next generation? the Drones?.........

When you are older life is less black and white and things become more clear

Im going into 11th grade this year and I have been to atleast 8 different schools. Out of those schools the only one I liked (other than home school) was the one in Sonora. I think the reason I liked that school was because It had massive funding because it was the only school in the area. As usual, money seems to be the solution.

Well I know in Kentucky they now have Kentucky Education Reform Act that says every school will get equal funding not the rich areas getting more...and that every child will be allowed to excel at their own pace...

Meaning say you are in 11 grade..but you are super in math ...and can easily pass all the classes in high school..then you can take AP Math..earning college credit..if you are slower in say science..you can go at a slower pace...

When I was teaching I had children who needed more help in reading..they came to my class for smaller group teaching...but yet in math they did outstanding they would attend the next grade levels math...

I am not saying you do not have reason to be dissatisfied but just saying not all are like one or 8...just like not all teens are Great ..not all teens are bad...

A majority of schools do not have these "good" teachers you speak of. While I was lucky enough to have two of them while I attended public school, every single one of my teachers at the private school I attended for high school were not only good, they were excellent.

The difference is the fact that public schools aren't about education anymore. Teachers teach because they get paid (most of them), and students go to school because they have to (most of them, at least for grade school). This is a difficult reality to face, but the quicker we do as a nation, the more children we can save from our "modern" education.

We really need to either:

A) Stop abusing tax dollars by having this joke of a public education system and initiate some serious education reform (this includes some serious belittling of the teachers union - they are 50% of the problem).

OR

B) Stop abusing tax dollars by having this joke of a public education system and completely privatize it alltogether. Though I wouldn't really like the idea of it, a voucher system funded by the government would be beneficial to those who can't afford to pay a lot for schools. Those who don't make enough money to pay top dollar for education (even though education is worth every penny when you are actually being educated) can use a government voucher worth a certain amount to get their child into a less-expensive, yet privatized school.

Not only does this plan remove the government from a public education system it is quickly destroying, it allows the private education groups to choose the teachers, cutting down on the number of bad teachers and increasing the number of good teachers.

Students will be able to learn more because private education groups can be more specific in their teaching and monitoring, so they will be able to get more help to children who are struggling, and also hire more advanced teachers for more advanced children At my public school, all of the advanced programs for the more advanced students were eliminated because it "discriminated" (intelligenceism????) against the children who couldn't make it into these advanced programs, and as the education system is run by the government, this "discrimination" was immediatly dealt with by simply eliminating said programs. Not only did this hurt the advanced students by not allowing them to learn at a faster pace, it hurt the less-advanced students because they were forced to compete in class with students who were learning at a much faster pace. How can anyone justify hurting children trying to learn?

PS: My mother is a public school teacher. She agrees with B.

You are an absolute fucking idiot if you believe this. Do you have any idea exactly how much teachers actually get paid?
In a normal job with exactly as much experience as I have now, I am able to make in 4 8-hour days what I make in a month as a teacher. A vast majority of us don't teach for our right-above-the-poverty-line salaries.

My HS was pretty nice about things for awhile, I think they started cracking down on restrictions during my 10th grade year or so. Normally when we were on "break" as my school called it we played UT: GOTY on the library comps, or in the mornings before the bells rang to go to class. I cant say I hated HS, I went through 6th -12th grade in the same area, very small little place in eastern kentucky. My teachers were greate, they dont get paid alot but I still had very caring teachers. Some people just like having an impact on someones life, theres alot of my teachers Ill never forget and owe many thanks to for helping me out alot more than they "get paid to". Teachers dont teach for the fucking money, have you ever actually seen what teachers make? They dont exactly live in gold trimmed mansions yo.

@Topic: Simple restrictions like porn filters and whatnot is acceptable because some kids are like ab and cant resist the fetish sites. Completely hendering kids is retarded though, they try to make kids act like adults in hs, unlike grade school where your teachers crawl down your backs when you dont complete your homework or you didnt read that book for english, my teachers made it our responsibility to turn in our homework, to read those english books. More responsibility helps you prepare to be on your own.

I am sorry your mother is a teacher. Obviously you missed something valuable in life. I am speechless and ashamed...

SunShine, all of your objections are based on the assumption that the school system is competent.
Who will be blammed when little Johnny comes out and has no clue to real life skills he will need...

It will not be the Parents or Johhny ..heaven forbid either be responisble in anyway ...it will be the schools and teachers...been there heard that
Little Johhny will already come out of school with no real life skills because schools don't teach them.
I was in Honors Trigonometry when I was a sophomore and I can honestly say that class was easy..... School never taught me anything, all it did was waste my time. I could have been out actually learning stuff than going to pep rallies or any of that garbage. We had things called "Spirit Lines" where the teachers would make all the kids go out in the hall for half an hour while the band went through playing their instruments. How in the hell does that help a students education? How do "pep rallies" help anyone? They don't.

Another thing I hated with school, is that I was forced to take English every single year. I don't give a rats ass about poetry, shakespear, or any of that garbage. But they still force you to take the class. English is a waste of time. I could type as well as I could now, so I obviously understood the rules of the English language. So why did they make students take English if they aready know all the rules of the English language? Don't try to tell me Romeo and Juliet is educational, it isn't. In my job now, I can honestly say I have never had any use for anything I "learned" in English/Literature class. Sure I read lots of books that I hated, but that isn't education.

I laugh at the education system. The highschool I went to has been in the newspapers lately asking people to write letters to the state congressmen to ask them to give more money to the school. And what is the school building right now with all that money they have? A new fence and ticket booth for the football field. Yeah, I am going to ask the state to spend more tax money on a highschool football stadium.

So to sum all this up. School was a piece of cake, and I didn't learn anything from most of my classes. There were a few teachers that stood out, and actually taught something. The rest of it was "Open your book, read these pages, do this worksheet, leave when the bell rings.". So I don't see why the students can't go to humor websites during school, because it isn't like they are doing anything else constructive at the moment.

Why don't you blame the people who deserve to be blamed? There's people from both parties that support it. It's not just Republicans, you ignorant asshole.
WarAngel, I am a Republican. All of you should know that by now. I was joking around, sheesh.

Democrats would probably do the same thing if they were running the country :p

Yeah I got that feeling too....

No child deserves to be molested, reguardless of the circumstances.

The parents on the other hand..... Well, let's just hope they at least use lubricant on them :D .

Definitely the parents' fault if your child is kidnapped due to MySpace...

Maybe they should enact a law forcing parents to spend at least 1 hour a day talking to/learning about their kids...

Yeah I was sort of joking about my entire post...

Parents are responsible for their kids, though. I know some parents that are WAY too lax with their kids.
