I was home schooled for several years (off and on). Its much more efficient than public schools in that I completed more work in a day than most public school students complete in 3. A standard day for me was no more than 5 hours in home school but in public school, from 7:40am to 3:00pm, my time is their time (not including bus ride). Funding a home school system is also a lot cheaper than funding public schools. In public school my GPA never tops a 3.0 but in home school I ended the year with a 3.8. Home schooling also teaches valuable skills that students would normally not learn in public school like how to wisely manage your time (I created my own schedule for 8 classes). Did I mention that in home school I earned 11 credits in a single year, thats almost the equivalent of 2 years of public school.
Wonderful but really you are the exception...can you imagine some of the uneducated people who are lazy and want to suck the life out of everyone and everything they can if it means something free or easy for them..can you imagine them home schooling their children???
I recall one year my school system took a stand with head lice...said we would no longer let any child come back to school that still had nits...one parent stood up and said it was OUR job to comb them out she did not have time to ....My school provided FREE sprays and shampoos for the lice..
I was like ..well can I count them on my tax forms as a dedication because I am responsible for the education, moral maturity or lack of and now I am to be responsible for grooming them too...
We had children who came to school whose only meals was the ones they got at school..some came in dirty clothes and the teachers and counselors got together and got them clothes..so every day when they arrived they were washed and re-dressed in clean clothes and sent on their way..the next day they would arrive in the same clothes from the day before only they had not be bathe or washed..so we re did the process..why? because they could not learn when they were ashamed of how they looked..they were made fun of for stinking ..we tried to step and help remove that obstacle..
We had children come to school who were not able to do homework because mommy's and her bf were up drinking and fighting all night...
We had kids come to school who were beaten by adults..I mean BEATEN...
We did not get to luxury of having only the kids who wanted to learn. who came from supportive parents and a loving home...we had them all ..and we had to find a way to reach each one...
Some teachers like myself teach because we care. we want to help we want to make the world a little better...
I am glad you had a good experience and came out all the better for it..not all have that...but lump us all if you must...
Some kids who are home schooled come out being morons ....and can not pass a simple equivalency test..but I do not think home schooling is bad as long as the educated are teaching the educated
You are the excpetion not the rule
